is this calamus(sweet flag)?

this is the picture on erowids page of calamus. It does not seems to resemble most pictures of calamus but have found a picture of the plant in this picture growing around my yard. Basically, is this calamus? is so, why does it look so differnt from all erowids other pcitures of calamus? as always, any help would be appreciated.

Re: is this calamus(sweet flag)?

Erowids images looks more the flowers of Calamus gibbsianus, but the plant behind the small flowers look more like sweet flag calamus. I guess it could of been a mistake due to the name, but swim is not really sure on this one.

Re: is this calamus(sweet flag)?

The leaf is the best for identity - aside from taste. The worst thing SWIM could do is mistake this critter for Blue-Lilly - which has a root-stock that tastes acrid and burning. Get a book and study. Acorus Calamus is plentiful. So it could well be. But continue the field taxonomy before you let SWIM chew it.
