1 mg of Alprazolam nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
If swim takes 1mg of xanax at night for 1 month to help with sleep...would swim get withdraw symtpoms after the month is up?
It seems this dose is too little to cause such withdrawal? |

Re: 1 mg of xanax nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
As with any habit forming drug, withdrawal is a possibility. However at the amount mentioned it is highly unlikely. In addition, Alpralozam is metabolized very quickly, sometimes causing withdrawal in between standard dosing.

Re: 1 mg of xanax nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
swim dies not suggest trying this what so ever to try using 1mg of alprazolam a day.. but to each there own..
Swim thinks the mental withdrawl will be the worst.. but as usual precaution should be taken and a taper should be done.. Just a couple of days... ..No one should ever just jump off benzos. Last edited by Spare Chaynge; 09-08-2008 at 17:39. |

Re: 1 mg of xanax nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
A month of chronic use is pushing one's luck. And it seems to me that if one is not benzo-tolerant and a normal metabolizer, a dose of .5mg should be plenty for sleep. Best of luck, I would strongly recommend against using benzodiazepines daily for sleep. Is SWIY's underlying issue going to somehow resolve itself in one month's time?

Re: 1 mg of xanax nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
In SWIM's recent experience, just 4 or 5 days of taking 1mg alprazolam is enough to experience ill physical effects. Maybe it would not technically be classified as withdrawal, but there were definite rebound effects of insomnia and irritability.
So SWIM thinks you're very likely to experience some problems after the month is up. |

If withdrawal is that much of a concern, then gradually reduce the dose 0.5mg every 3 days.

Re: 1 mg of xanax nightly enough to cause withdrawal?
SWIM's grandpa has been taking benzos for something like 40 years and meprobromate before that. chlordiazepoxide, to diazepam, to finally alprazolam. He's 70 years old and he takes a single 0.5mg alprazolam each night as what he calls a "maitanence dose."
He's never used any drugs that SWIM knows of, in fact, SWIM has never even seen him drink a drop of alcohol nor heard of such. He's told SWIM that he is "addicted" to alprazolam as he puts it "in a way" because he claims that if he forgets to take his daily dose he "wakes up in the middle of the night and wonders why he's awake." |

Quote:
benzo's are not super addictive, but are one of the easiest drugs to quickly get a physical dependence upon... even with low doses. some people think addiction and dependence are the same thing. dependence is not as much of a monster as addiction, however dependence can cause health problems... if ur GPA had an addiction he'd be running out of his script in a week or so then doing whatever he could to find more/drinking out of control the rest of the month. |
