Receptors By Richard M Restak MD
8/10
I found this book to be a most excellent one, dealing with the topic of psychopharmacology. The author makes good use of analogies, so a background in biology or chemistry is unnecessary to understand what he's talking about. Of course, a bit of prior knowledge into the chemical workings of the brain will go a long way. The book speaks on the history of psychopharmacology, as well as recent progress (as of the book's publication in 1994) and future potentials. It goes into great detail about a number of wellknown psychedelics and narcotics and all the wonderful things they have helped scientists to discover about the brain. Great book that gives a laymans overview of receptors and psychopharmacology.
Some sample chapter titles that may spark the interest of readers here:
-Magic intoxicants
-Dr. Hofmann and the Magic Circle
-The Dust of Angels
-Dr. Freud and the Devils Bargain (cocaine)
-Mother's Little Helper (valium)
