DRANK, anti-energy drink
I didn't know where else to post this so I figured this would be the best place.
Has anyone tried this stuff? Here are some quotes taken from websites. "Drank is a new "anti-energy drink," designed to, er, "slow your roll." The grape-flavored drink is fortified with melatonin, valerian root, and rose hips." "From design to production, every aspect of this calming drink was inspired by today’s popular hip hop artists who embrace the much sought-after hip hop lifestyle that encourages people to capture a stress-free state of mind." The stuff actually works pretty well. I heard some places they are serving drank + vodka, and it is a popular combo, like redbull and vodka, but instead of mixing the upper/downer, you are potentiating the vodka with the "drank." Any comments? Has anyone tried this stuff? SWIM went to a party and was sipping on a drank before he got there. He drank a few beers upon arrival and was super tired. He tried drank again another day and it made him pass out. It's pretty potent stuff. It would work great for sleep, but so will melatonin in and of itself, which is much cheaper. Interesting novelty I guess. |

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
Isn't this trying to cash in on the "purple drink" craze that is sweeping America?
"Purple drink", AFAIK, being a mixture of codeine containing cough syrup and Sprite... sounds lovely. |

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
Though I'm a tad sceptical of its effectiveness and whether it will ever become popular, if it did, I could see it getting banned pretty quickly. The modern world doesn't want down, only up. Why do you think energy drinks are so popular? People live under the illusion that sugar rushes and caffeine buzzes somehow make you dynamic. They certainly don't want the opposite of that. Productivity is key. Keep the worker bees busy.

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
many articles state that it's mainly popular in the deep south for some reason. Basically it's an imitation of the "purple drank" aka "sizzurp" which is purple codeine cough syrup and sprite, with legal ingredients. It's for all those wanting to imitate rapper/ganster culture.

Don't forget that the culture of "relaxing after work" is also pretty significant in today's world. ![]() SWIM however is a bit doubtful about the use of melatonin in the drink. Melatonin is an endogenous tryptamine that is responsible of one's circadian rhythm. SWIM takes melatonin to regulate his ridiculously retarded sleep pattern (and also to increase dreaming). But wouldn't taking melatonin completely fuck up people's sleep pattern? I mean, when people take a nap during the late afternoon and then wake up to finish the night, most have a weird (and not very pleasant) feeling of timelessness (like with jet lag, and melatonin is also used to help with just that), and it's very likely that it happens because of melatonin. |

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
SWIM recently noticed a red bull add that read Coca leaf on the ingredients and made a big deal out of it. SWIM did some research and found out that its a type of coca plant that has been bred and bred to yield practically none of the used alkaloids. Yet another case of big companies using drugs to sex up their products.

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
swim contacted the Drank PR long ago inquiring if this was available in his area. in a recent conversation with her it turns out that they just recently started stocking Drank at 7-11's around the LA area, though he has not had the time to go check yet.
Heard of that malt energy tallboy Joose? they have a purple Dragon Joose that swim NEEDS to try mixed in with Drank. For scientific purposes, of course. |

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
Swim would be much more interested in this if they replaced the melatonin and valerian with chamomile and passion flower.

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
Hmm... swim wonders how great making some sizzurp with say 4oz of Hydrocodone/Promethazine cough syrup and this DRANK would be... He saw a cartoon on Adult Swim where a kid was making an energy drink that everybody got addicted to. Not because it was loaded with sugar and caffeine but because he was using old empty morphine bottles he found behind a hospital to put his drink in haha

Re: DRANK, anti-energy drink
Yes this stuff is extremely effective. As SWIM said, he drank one and it made him take a nappy nap during the middle of the day.
It is most definitely popular down south. Especially in H-town, home of the legend, DJ screw, who was famous for slooooooowin it down and chop chop chopppin it up. It goes hand in hand with the slowed down screw music. SWIM saw a poster for this stuff and the poster made it look like a bottle of cough syrup and the shit was oozing down the side of the poster. He thought they were advertising lean at first, because "drank" is one of the most common slang terms for opiate based cough syrup. Lean is another term that is commonly used along with drank. It is very effective, but you don't get too much bang for your buck. For the price of a few cans, you can just get a bottle of melatonin and whatever else is in it. That way, you would get a lot more for your money. The beverage hits pretty fast and hard though. By the time SWIM was done drinking it, he was already feeling relaxed and sleepy. He has taken melatonin before and had mixed results. It definitely didn't kick in as fast as the liquid form. The drink doesn't taste half bad either. SWIM isn't a huge fan of energy drinks, he doesn't really like the taste. This stuff tastes better than most energy drinks, but it isn't something SWIM would buy just for the taste. SWIM might buy a few cans just to have around in case he can't sleep one night. Sprite with syzurup is a pretty good mixture. SWIM bets this stuff would mix well with some opiate bases syzurup. |
