Interesting convo SWIM had with cashier

So, SWIM was making his bi-weekly trip to the local CVS to make his usual purchase - 2 bottles of generic brand cough pills and a Dr. Pepper. The cashiers know SWIM, and some have given him a few casual questions as to why he buys the same thing all the time. Anyway, during this trip, the cashier looks at swim, looks at his items, and says "Are you 18?" and he says, "yes."

Now, lately SWIM has been noticing they have never asked for ID lately, probably because they know he has a valid ID and is over 18.. they just ask because they have to. SWIM offered his ID anyway, and she said she didn't need to see it. Her words were.. "If you're gonna get high off this stuff, knock yourself out."

SWIM responded, "Thanks, I probably will.."

She laughed and SWIM went on his way. SWIM's question is, legally, even if SWIM were to approach the register and tell the cashier that he was buying xxx medication with the intent of getting high, would they be able to prevent his purchase?

I assume that this hypothetical question takes place in the US.

If they knew that SWIY were buying DXM in order to get "high" then not only CAN they restrict SWIY's purchase, but they probably SHOULD restrict SWIY's purchase... You mentioned a pretty large corporation in your post. Trust me. If they knew that an employee was aware of SWIY's intentions, and then sold it anyways, I doubt they would be too thrilled to keep that person on as an employee.

Yeah, that corporation in particular seems to have a lot of employees who just don't give a shit. SWIM has had similar experiences with different stores, the employees just don't care. It could be swim's area.

Last time SWIM purchased a suspicious quantity of robo the cashier went off on a tangent seeming casual enough about how they needed to ask for ID now because they had been finding all kinds of empty robo containers outside the store and had been advised by the police to stop selling them to kids. SWIM just smiled and nodded and walked out of the store.

It is a felony to use a product, regards medication, in a way inconsistent with the instructions on the label. So not only could they restrict said purchase, they could call the cops.

Unfortunately the DEA and FDA have been active looking for medicine-badguys who take 2 instead of 1 or such. This coincides with their latest screams to the mainstream-media about kids getting high on Mom & Pop's prescriptions.

Yeah, buying two at a time is sketch enough, but periodically buying 2 at a time is a dead giveaway.

SWIM was able to get the stuff from probably 10-11 different locations within 5 miles, (back when swim was addicted) he would actually map out and draw a plan to go to all of these stores so that there was the longest time interval between them, and then swim would switch em up so he wasn't expected on a certain day either.

God, i known that Unknown started off buying 2 or more with his buddy at the local shopko.He'd go in with his friend and buy a few bottles of Delsym then walk to the dollar store and buy some soda...Once a cashier had actually said " I know what you two are gunna do with that" Unknown responded "yeah take a shot of it when my cough starts to bother me."

Swim has had a few encounters with cashiers who mention getting high. It generally only happens when buying syrup or pills. They'll say something along the line of, "You don't look sick..." with the intention of trying to say something about getting high off of it. I've never been questioned when buying zicam however. Perhaps it's just the "Robitussin" name that gets them interested.

SWIM think a purchase should only be restricted if the person says they are goign to get high on it and it's CCC's or the wrong kind, and the cashier should tell the person the righ tkind

SWIM hasn't done dex that much, maybe 5-10 times, and SWIM can honestly say that he's gotten a dirty look everytime SWIM has purchased Robitussin. The only conversation SWIM has had with a cashier was when she scanned a bottle of Robitussin and a receipt printed saying "Prevent teenage cough syrup abuse and ID the customer." SWIM was able to read the printout from the corner of his eye. The cashier went from being happy and friendly to suspicious in the blink eye. After confirming that SWIM was 18, the cashier said "Well you can't stop people from doing what they want to do" as she completed the purchase.

Luckily SWIM was able to keep his temper away in this situation. I mean don't get SWIM wrong, she made the right judgement call in this situation, but it was interesting that a simple note made her judge SWIM differently. But whatever, SWIM got his Robo and SWIM go his high.

yeah, seriously, not paying is weak and is going to get the stuff severely restricted in the future.

update, today swim saw the same cashier, except he added on a few purchases like aspirin/benadryl which swim actually needs as well.. she didnt even mention it

My friend always buys her DXM when she is going like grocery shopping for the week and is getting a lot of other food, because then it looks way less suspicious than having just a couple of thongs of pills and a drink or something. My friend has never had anyone comment on the pills, although one time when she went to a store where a lot of kids who went to her school worked one smiled at her like he knew what I was doing XD

Or buy 1 bottle per store.

Also if doing it everyday, might be best to find out when everybody works and not make a regular appearance until shift change.

Self checkout buy like 4 bottles at a time, then go back and get the rest. If need be have a friend get 2 bottles and self checkout half way across the store at the same time as swiy does with the other 2 bottles.

Btw in the U.S. any store has the right to refuse service to any person for any reason. Thats the way it works.

Edit2: Dont do DXM everyday, UTFSE for more info. But its bad for your liver and your mind. Give your body atleast a week or two in between doses.

ya as blue was 16 he went into the gas station trippin on about 600-800mgs walking like zombie up to the medicine shelf and would buy the entire shelf of syrup.cashier laughed his ass off as completing the purchase, only for the cashier to hear about it 5 mins later by the cop that got blue out of the middle of the street because blue thought he had to dance about the street like a dinosaur.cop and cashier had quite a laugh. blue was escorted to his grandmothers house not allowed to leave untill sober. very very good night. blue could had it alot worse.

Just wondering - anyone got any input with regards to the UK? SWIM used to purchase bottles of supermarket own brand syrup from a large chain superm.... fuck it, it was Tesco, and has never ever purchased suspicious amounts, because he was worried that they would suspect something and prevent him from purchasing it anymore.

Obviously he didn't want this, as the supermarket brand syrup happened to be the best and cheapest available.

SWIM is considering a one-off DXM experience in the near future, and is looking for some advice.... in the past he bought two bottles, one from each store (a good 30 mins walk apart!). He was wondering - if he was to buy 2 bottles from one store, would the Pharmacist be likely to stop him?

If it helps, SWIM never made regular visits to the shops (his DXM use was usually months apart), and tended to see different Pharmacists.

Whaddya reckon - 2 bottles too much? Maybe an excuse such as "one is for a relative" or something? Also - SWIM is not a child, and looks fairly mature, he knows impressions do tend to make a difference.

yes blue is now coming down 18 hours later looking at that makes him tired but when typing it every new word seemed to go with the last so great that he could not stop himself from typing, from 11am till about 9pm, becaise he would later think of something better to replace the one a few thousand words back and would rewrite it backwards, and from the inside out and all kinds of amazing shit.
