TEK - Slappy's "Double Bali" kratom Recipe

SWIM's cat, Slappy, very much enjoys the effects of kratom, but he hates the taste when brewed in tea, and finds the toss-and-wash method even more disgusting. Slappy ends up putting his kratom into 000 gel caps, using a simple plastic machine designed to cap 'em quik. Each cap ends up containing almost exactly 1g of powdered kratom, so that makes dosing for Slappy very convenient.

Most cats agree that the best bang for the buck with kratom products is unenhanced leaf. Slappy thinks the Ultra Enhanced Indo is a fantastic and potent product, active at the 1-gel cap level (1.0g). But Slappy is a regular, working cat and cannot afford the indulgence of such a high-priced product, except on an occasional basis.

Slappy likes Premium Commercial Bali kratom, at the 8-12 gram dosage level. But Slappy finds that swallowing 12 gel caps takes real determination, and can be kinda unpleasant. So Slappy developed a procedure, using some simple kitchen equipment, to make a high-efficiency enhanced leaf from Premium Commercial Bali, which he estimates (by feline bio-assay) to be roughly twice as potent as the starting material.

Slappy's Ingredient List:

50g + 10g (60g total) finely-powdered Premium Commercial Bali Kratom (PCB) from a reputable, feline-friendly vendor
1 Liter of cheap 80 proof Vodka (40% alcohol)

Slappy's Equipment List:

Large pasta pot
Small sauce pan
French Press coffee maker
Food Dehydrator (optional, but recommended)
Coffee grinder
Rubber spatula
A Plastic knife or two

Slappy's Procedure:

Take 50g of the PCB, and put it into the French Press.

Carefully heat 350mL of the vodka in the small sauce pan on an electric heating element. WARNING - Alcohol is flamable, so NEVER, EVER use a gas burner or allow smoking or open flames near it. Vodka should come to a good rolling boil. Remove from heat, and immediately add it to the PCB in the French press. Stir with a plastic knife. Allow to seep at least 5 minutes.

Push the plunger on the French press, as if making coffee. This will take a lot of pressure and effort, as the fine powder tends to clog up the filter section of the plunger. Pour off the solution into the large pasta pot. Lift the plunger, and stir the PCB on the bottom with a plastic fork. If it still contains a lot of liquid, do another plunge. The idea is to squeeze out as much of the solvent as felinely possible.

Heat 200mL vodka, add to PCB in the French press, stir well, wait at least 5 minutes, and plunge as above. Add solution to pasta pot.

Slappy performs three more extractions using 200mL, 150mL, and 100mL of hot vodka. By the final extraction, Slappy reports that the expelled liquid is considerably lighter and clearer than the first couple of extractions.

The large pasta pot contains nearly 1 L of vodka, with (Slappy thinks) virtually all of the active alkaloids from the original 50g of kratom leaf dissolved in it. This is reduced over med-low heat, preferably outside, or in a well-ventilated area. Slappy doesn't let it boil - just a very slight simmer. The reduction will take 2-3 hours.

When reduced to about 150-200mL, Slappy adds the remaining 10g of PCB and stirs well. This gives the sticky, tarry extract some body, and will help with getting the material into a workable consistency - The 10g of powder will absorb a lot of the residual moisture.

A little additional heating is performed, until the material is like cookie-dough.

At this point, the material can be scraped from the pot, spread out, and air dried. Depending upon the relative humidity, this might take a day or two. Alternately, a food dehydrator may be used for the final drying. It should be brittle, not at all sticky. Slappy reports that 2-3 hours in a dehydrator at 140F works well.

The extract is loaded into a coffee grinder, and processed into a fine powder.

Final weight of dried product = 30g. That's 1/2 the weight of the starting material.

Slappy advises caution when dosing with this material, as it's roughly twice as potent as the original PCB. Slappy has taken the liberty of naming it "Double Bali".

Slappy is a happy cat. Whereas he'd used to have to neck 8 caps, he now only has to swallow 4 for the same effects. This procedure is not difficult, and doesn't use any questionable chemicals. He's pretty sure he's getting the "full spectrum" of the alkaloid makeup, and he's pleased with the efficiency.

Slappy will soon try this procedure with Thai and Thai/Bali blended kratom, to attempt to get a product with a more energizing effect.

SWIM now just mixes the powder with some really sweet soda and drinks it while holding his nose. Masks that uniquely disgusting taste mighty well, he'd say. It's bitter as hell, but SWIM can take it -- it's only the flavor that he really can't stand.
