Netherlands: Man(18) dies after jump from window under influence of magic mushrooms

On Friday night, August 1st, a 18 year old man from the Hague has jumped from a window of his a domicile and died from his injuries later. The police received a call around 21.30, that a man had become very confused after wrong use of magic mushrooms and wanted to jump out of his window. The young man had locked himself in his domicile. When the police arrived at the scene, the man had already jumped out of the window. The man was badly injured. The man was transferred to the hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

The man was depressed and ignored the instructions of the salesman and the warnings on the product flyer. He consumed the strongest variety available, took the magic mushrooms alone and while suffering from depression. Since alcohol and cannabis was found in his house, it is likely that the mushrooms where combined with alcohol and other drugs. Both the smartshop and the flyer warned against this.

When the ambulance crew member was stabilizing the man, an oxygen tank exploded. The ambulance crew member and two police officers got wounded. The work inspection will investigate this accident. It is unclear to what extent the explosion has influenced the death of the young man.

Dutch parliament will debate about a magic mushroom ban next month. The government wants to ban magic mushrooms, due to a suicide of a French tourist(17) last year.

Unfortunately you'll see the prohibitionists (at least in Ireland anyway) dismissing that argument because so many people use them. Either that or they'll agree and demand a blanket ban on all psychoactives.

Crazy timing , swim left the hague just over a week ago. A bad trip , jumping out a window and then an exploding oxygen tank while he was in the ambulance , thats a stunningly horrible chain of events!!! Id imagine it was impossible to avoid the blast from within the ambulance ? And i wonder was there any alcohol involved. This is terrible timing for Mushroom given the current dutch controversy surrounding the issue.

It doesn't look good for mushrooms in the Netherlands. He went against the all the warnings but they'll just look at the fact that they've had two kids jumping out off of buildings.

Well, there wouldn't be a chance to stop a ban here in the US under those circumstances but maybe the politicians there don't boil everything down to a simple sound bite without looking at the complexity of the issues.

I know its a not a good image for drugs or drug users but you still have to feel sorry for the guy and his family. When swim was younger he made silly mistakes too, most swimmers do, its just a pity this guy wasnt more informed before going tripping.

Terrible timing indeed. With such an unusual chain of events, it's difficult to blame one aspect in particular but with mushrooms effectively under parole, we know this is going to be used in arguing against their legal availability. The oxygen tank explosion is very significant however. Supposing the young man was strapped down on a stretcher inside the ambulance, he would have no way of defending himself against the flying shards of metal. The post-mortem could be interesting.

The first human who ever ate magic mushrooms was never supposed to be elevated above treacherous heights. This apparent fear of certain psychoactive substances largely has to do with the mechanised societies we have built for ourselves. Mushrooms and heights don't seem to get along and motorvehicle use brings its own collection of problems as we all know.

its unfortunate that this happened but it does go to show that if someone doesn't heed the warnings when partaking in drugs, especially hallucigens, they can have a very bad trip which would cause them to be paranoid and irrational thinking

I still believe though that since only 2 deaths of been recorded in Netherlands (which wasn't an OD but suicide) that magic mushrooms are far better and safer than say alcohol or even tobacco which are the two only drugs that are legal that when used, will eventually be fatal

But even if this is true... the man was clearly depressed and possibly suicidal. If someone commits suicide by slitting their veins in a bathtub, do we respond by banning bathtubs?

To be honest, I've just about given up on the whole mushroom issue in the Netherlands. They're going to be banned, and all the noise in the world we "little people" make isn't going to make any difference.

if you google it there is plenty of accident or people injurying them selfs from falls of buildings becasue of alcohol. But sadly beer, is more socaily acceptable than mushrooms.
I still think people should becarfull when intoxicated.

As for the mushroom guy, he was warned but he ignored it all.

Hate you invoke bad tidings on the dead but, perhaps, someone should look into this guys background. Was he being treated for depression? Was he on medication for depression? What caused the smartshop to issue him a caution? There's more here than meets the eye - of that I am certain.

Time to look under some rocks.

Incidents happen now and then. Simple as that. Mostly small incident of little importance. But we will see every incident to be blown out of proportion for the next months, until the ban is pushed through.

Any good smartshop will caution a customer and inform the user what not to do. But yes, it should be clear what the situation is.

Damn. And Netherlands was spongebob's only hope of getting magic mushrooms legally. Guess it's not happening since spongebob won't be travelling to netherlands anytime soon. Poor lad but how many times have spongebob seen the warning about taking shrooms (or any psychedelic for the matter) when one is down? It's everywhere!!! In a friend's apartment, someone equally stupid put too much cocaine on his spoon, in spite of warnings from the others present that the stuff was much better than normal. The moment he pulled the rig out he started screaming 'They are coming after me...', dashed into the bathroom and locked himself in.

The moment they broke the door he disappeared from view out the window. Managed to slide down the roof and fall three stories onto concrete. Somehow only broke some bones, but was on crutches quite some time. Darwin must have been asleep that day.

I would say that the likley hood that magic mushrooms are finished in the Netherlands is high. I mean people are taking these dangerous mushrooms and jusmping out of widows all over the Netherlands. Of course this is the exact same thing that was said about LSD. It goes from a couple of people that may or may not have been effected by the mushrooms as a contributing factor to. "Mushrooms make you jump out windows". Hell I am suprised that when SWIM use to take them in the forest that he did not get a compulsion to drive to the city and find a building and jump.

Maybe they should give magic mushrooms to apprehensive paratroopers that are afraid to jump. Maybe they will have to give drug tests to bullfrogs that people enroll in frog jumping contests at the town fairs in Arkansas.
