hydrocodone and nausea

why is hydrocodone so nauseating when compared to other opiates,, oxycodone, morphine or pethidine.

swim and several of his friends have noticed this.

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

Is swiy referring to a hydrocodone/APAP mix or pure hydrocodone? If Vicoden or another mix, the APAP is probably responisble.

Swim has noticed vicoden can be pretty nauseating but hasn't had the same issue with extracted hydrocodone.

Hydrocodone is certianly an unusual opiate though, with a strange body load. Maybe due to diffrent receptor affinities.

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

swim gets more nausiated off oxycodone, probably because of the apap, and would still get sick off strait vicoden. but when swim extracted anything over 25mg, there was very little come down, as long as you're on solid ground. swim's also gotten sick from morphine in the pill form, but when swim cooked the same pill, there was no come down, but swim barely remembers since there was some weed involved about 3 hours later

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

Different people get nauseous from different drugs. Swim gets pretty ill from tramadol (any dose, ALWAYS) and anything above low doses (8mg or so) of Methadone. Heroin made him have way less nausea.

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

certain people react quite differently to opiates, and there are so many factors involved, their could be hundreds of perfectly valid explanations. However, with Hydrocodone Bitrate, Nausea is a common side effect and is made worse while ambulatory. Laying down usually will alleviate the discomfort. Nausea from the Hydrocodone can also be prevented by eating something before taking the drug however food greatly reduces the absorption up to 50%. If the Acetaminophen were causing the nausea, it is an indication of a potentially hepatoxic overdose and can be quite serious.

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

Swim recently used high dose hydrocodone, and has to say the nausea is way less than other opiates. He vomited twice (both quite bad), but overall, fewer negatives than other opiates. Also, vomiting occurred from being ambulatory, or moving around.

SWIM has always had a pretty sensitive stomach when it comes to hydrocodone. So much in fact that he often times can not move for extended periods of time without vomiting. A precursor to SWIM's nausea is usually an extreme hot flash and clammy skin followed by a vertigo type effect.

SWIM enjoys the feel of said medication but just has a rough time of it so SWIM's wife started giving him promethazine tablets in conjunction with hydrocodone. SWIM says this usually works wonders unless he has been foolish and consumed WAY too much of a good thing. SWIM also wonders if the fact that this chemical is a semi-synthetic could possibly be triggering the nausea or if it is the acetaminophen? Could be hydrocodone does not bode well with SWIM.

Re: hydrocodone and nausea

In regards to opiates and nausea, it is not really the stomach that causes the nausea. opiates affect a part of the brain that is responsible for causing nausea, so it takes place inside the brain. but when SWIM takes hydrocodone/APAP on an empty stomach, it causes more nausea than on a full stomach. SWIM thinks this is because of the acetaminophen interacting with the stomach.
