Pharmacology - Wellbutrin(bupropion) and Effexor(venlafaxine) decrease potency of Drugs?

Let’s say Swim is taking Wellbutrin(bupropion) and Effexor(venlafaxine) daily. When swim takes generic adderal(amphetamine) (pink) does the adderal’s decrease? What about Tramadol or methamphetamine?
According to the Drug Interaction chart below it stumps the high???!!! Since bupropion seems to be a strong inhibiter making it ineffective. Am I getting this right? Please if you can provide experiences and/or any explanations or conformation it would be much appreciated. Thanks you.

First off, do not cross-post threads in different forums. It is against the rules.

Secondly, don't think about taking Tramadol if you are on Venlafaxine (risk serotonin syndrome), and don't mix Tramadol with amphetamines either (risk of seizure)! Buproprion should also not be mixed with Tramadol, due to reduced seizure threshold.

Using stimulants with bupropion runs the risk of having a seizure, and should only be attempted under the advise of a doctor for therapeutic reasons. Recreational doses would be especially dangerous.

I understand the dangers, however, what I am concerned with is if bupropion downgrades the effectiveness of tramadol, amphetamines etc. Thanks

I'd say a decrease in potency is the least of swiy's worries if he tries any of these combinations.


Absolutely DO NOT try to use Tramadol while taking either Buproprion or Venlafaxine, and especially not while taking both of them! You have a high risk of both serotonin syndrome and seizure from this mixture, and neither are any fun at all.

Not sure about amphetamines having less effect while mixed with Bupropion (it is a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor), but not sure if this will have the same interaction with dopam, but don't think Venlafaxine would attenuate stimulant effects. Bupropion reduces the seizure threshold, so any stimulants should be used with extreme caution, and hopefully under the supervision of a trained medical professional.

Actually swim used to be on wellbutrin and it made the drugs much more potent for a sbort time.

That sounds like a possibly toxic reaction. Maybe liver-impairment? Anywho - I will echo Bajeda: Do not allow SWIM to mix these drugs. The chance for serotonin-syndrome and seizure is way too high. Unless SWIM is fond of harps - veto the idea.

I take Wellbutrin from time and time and I can anecdotally say that it reduces the effectiveness of some things, while boosting other things. While taking Wellbutrin, caffeine does virtually nothing, even after drinking several cups of coffee. On the flip side, nicotine is way stronger, as is my [unusual] desire for it.

So what does that mean? Uncertainty.
It also seems very strange that your doctor would give you Wellbutrin, and Effexor, and Adderall. If you have a weak heart, this is sure fire way to have a heart attack.
