Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

Well....swiS lives in a pretty small town....small local police force....not much crime compared to similar cities elsewhere in the country.....

Anyway, these yahoo's! at the local police station received a $grant, and went out and got themselves a nice new Drug Sniffing Dog! Not a big deal right?------Wrong!!!

So far, pretty much seems like every little traffic stop seems to require the use of this dog. They are claiming some type of triumph because they have busted a few people with very small amounts of marijuana......Look how great this dog is.....we got this teaspoon of pot off the street!!!

Now this town has had it's share of increased drug problems...nothin' big, but it's there.....The problem is, these cops are like a kid w/ a new toy on Christmas!!! Wantin' to show it off and use it when/where ever they can!

Hopefully, the novelty will diminish over time...doubt it!

SwiS was wondering if any other bees out there in small towns have this experience!

best to all....S

These dogs usually are retired quickly swim would say you have maybe 4 or 5 more years before this dog is destroyed.

Re: Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

Guess that depends on how one looks at the word, "Quickly"

swiS knows what swiY are saying, this isn't a long lifespan for something....but 4-5yrs!!!

And, swiY can bet swiYour ass, they will come up w/ all kinds of bogus success stories to prove how great it is and get another dog!

swiS just hopes that the novelty of the thing wears off faster than that!

Maybe the reason they're "like a kid with a new toy on Christmas" is so that, next year, they can justify asking for an even BIGGER $grant? I'm not wholly conversant on police politics, but that's usually they way the public sector in general works.

If the grant monies were earmarked to fight the 'war on drugs', the dog will be both a financial and most importantly, statistical bonus...good thing to have when applying for new grants.

IMO, this dog will get a workout before it winds up in a Cambodian restaurant.

Sounds like a good reason to pack up the U-Haul. Why hang around and be harrassed by these pricks. Unfortunately, the largest group that stands opposed to Marijuana legalization is Law Enforcement, who considers MJ legalization a 'jobs issue'. Looks like the L.E.O.'s in your town are taking their jobs too seriously. Thomas Jefferson said that the most important reason that citizens should retain the right to bear arms is to resist tyranny in government. So the options are stay and shoot it out, or move. (j/k)

Move.

Re: Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

Small town cops have been causing drug users headaches for over 50 years. I would do as has been posted previously, move. Small town judges and prosecuting attorneys usually seek the highest penalties for drug crimes as well. It behooves the drug fiend to get out of small town America, or small town anywhere for that matter.

Maybe play a bit of a prank on the local 5-0 first: get a spray bottle and spray dirty bong water on all of the cop cars (covertly, of course), it'll make the dog go nuts.

Unhappy Re: Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

Hi I know EXACTLY what is happening to your town... becuase, its basically the same as what is happening to mine!
My town has a small population of about 17,500.
It originally ad just the local police, and everythign else, but nooow,
we ALSO have the search & sniff dog and we got another 50 valounteer police officers last month....
2 of my friends have already been nusted, one friend had 2 joints, probably no more then a 1/2 G in each joint.
The other friend was caught with basically the same amount.
I am just wondering the same thing as you, is it only gonna get worse? Or mayyybe get better?
Ive lived here my whole life... I dont have any other contacts from other cities/towns (Except this 1 guy...lol) but I dont want to move, but if its effecting the "ease" of a stoners life, then how can i WANT to live here? :S

Re: Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

This is just fucking pathetic, especially on the heels of states like Massachusetts decriminalizing possession of "small amounts" of marijuana (under 1 (one) ounce), to go out deliberately searching for small amounts of pot.

*sigh*

Re: Small Town - New Dog...or should swim say Toy

Looking for ways to bring in more revenue for the shrinking tax base, where else to get it by stepping up traffic patrols. They pulled that shit on me last week, I fitted the description of a local burglar, so they pulled me over. Cost me 110 f*cking dollars for expired sticker. Plus I pissed them off, when I would refuse a search of my vehicle.
