What drinks give the most bang for one's buck?

What is the most cost effective way of drinking? Please mention the country which you are using as a reference as I'm unsure how much of a factor this will play.

What I'm wondering is what gives the most alcohol for the least price. Generalizations are fine. Is it better to buy cheap beer, cheap spirits or cheap wine?

Thoughts?
