Family/significant other and drug use

I checked the search but I apologize if a similar thread has already been posted.

Do any of your loved ones know about your drug use? How did they react when they found out? If they don't know but were to find out, would it ruin the relationship?

SWIMs parents know about alot of his heavy drug use, and it's only made them more restrictive and worried about SWIM. His girlfriend knows very little, but when she found a marijuana pipe in his car she was deeply hurt (she claims it's because SWIM lied and told her he didn't smoke, but he knows it's also because she's against marijuana use). If SWIM's girlfriend knew about his heavy drug use, it would probably be a deal breaker. Anyone have similar experiences with this?

Most people who know SWIM knows he smokes cannabis. He certainly wouldn't get into one of those "hide the bong" relationships. It's better to be up front right from the start. I guess one can get away with that over here because generally people aren't afflicted with artificial morality and propagandistic programming which seems to be running rife in the US since the Reagan era.

fortunetly smurfs mom uses drugs & smurfs dad died of a drug over dose & smurfs cousin is in rehab & various other members are on drugs. so it is'nt a big thing for smurf or the family besides for a crazy mom that threw smurf out of the house at the age of 17 when she discovered smurf was doing more than one drug, weed been the deciding point? go figure. lol. shes smoked since like 14 yrs old & has done & still does alot of things.

it is best to be honest, at first there will be a little surprise 'shock horror' but then they'll get used to it & not have any weird theories they trying to figure out, but perhaps not reveal everything to cause too much unneccessary concern. smurf has done various drugs with his mom but there is a point when one draws the line.

with ones girlfriend smurf believes if you dont want any complications in the future be as honest as you can be. people must like you for who you are or else they can piss off & deal with it.

The worst thing about parents knowing is that they have ammunition for arguments for years to come in the future. If SWIM does something they don't agree with they can just blame it on the drugs
SWIM would feel bad for making them worry about something that they can't do anything about. But thats only if the drug use is a problem really like for SWIM at the moment.

Swims parents know about his use of drugs and kinda go through a denial phase every time the find out. Swim has used cannabis among itgers for about 2 years with his parents periodically catching him every 2-3 months. AT that time, they usually give swim a speach about how dope is ruining him and how addicitve marijuana is. then they take swims stash and swim starts up again within the next 2 weeks. Swim is 16 and will be put of the hosue in 2 years so swim sjut kinda does what he wnats and dreams of living on his own. It doesnt affect the relationshi that much. Drugs are a taboo subject in the house.

Well, SWIM started off trying to hide it (he started at 13) and was even further encouraged to hide the double life because his sister died suddenly from a heroin overdose. The family at this point had no idea she was even using, but that's a story for another time.

At about age 16-17 he started doing a lot of reading about drug laws and hypocrisies(spelling?) which shaped him into a rather politically motivated person and made no attempt to hide his responsible drug use.

Because of demonstrating knowledge, experience and careful use, his parents are now pretty liberal about the whole thing. They don't approve of it but they respect his lifestyle.

As for his girlfriend, she was taken aback for a time. But now (after hours of discussion and even the opening of her third eye) she's cool with it and occasionally partakes herself.

edit: Ironically, SWIM's mother just came round for a visit and was openly talking about his cannibis use in an almost uplifting manner

well SWIM's parents oppose drugs except the occasional drinking which because of their opposition, SWIM had to hide his drug use while growing up...SWIM's parents knew he was partying and drinking and smoking some weed here and there and really didn't mind that

however, once SWIM was addicted to heroin, it became really hard to hide his using due to that all of his money was going towards the drug and they were starting to become extremely suspicious that SWIM was doing harder drugs....eventually they found SWIM in his room when he OD'ed and when they had to administer narcan to revive SWIM, they found out what he was doing

The oldest of SWIM's sisters and his uncle know about nearly every drug SWIM snorts, inhales or downs. Recently a second cousin of his, after getting to know the kid a bit better at a party, has become one of SWIM's dearest drug buddies.

The rest of SWIM's family, however, haven't the faintest idea.

SWIM has only been caught once for the consumption of drugs, which happened in the last year of high school. When on a school trip to Paris his teachers found him the second evening in the bus driver's hotel room, high as a kite and smoking a joint with the kind man. When SWIM got home the following day all hell broke lose. SWIM's dear father, you see, being a dutiful police officer, did not think lightly of the affair. For the next two months he didn't utter a single word to SWIM.

Drugs, along with sex-related issues, SWIM's mental state, and overt signs of affection, are some of the great taboos in SWIM's cosy little household. Should the father get wind of what SWIM puts up the bracket on a weekly basis he might, in the most positive of possible outcomes, be granted enough time to pack at least one suitcase. So it goes.

SWIM has been blessed she has been married to her best frind and trip buddy for 21 years. Psycadelics have always been a big part of thier relationship. She belives some drugs can be benificial to a loving relationship. Look at Albert Hoffan and his wife and Alexander & Anna Shulgin. She lost her parents years ago but her remaining family understand her deep love of psycadelics. Sometimes she is lucky enough that they all can share the experience. She and her husband have a 21 year old son whom they have never lied to about who they were. He is very intelligent and she trusts him to choose what is right for him. SWIM has a very close group of friends some who understand and some who do not but she doesnt lie to them. SWIM understands this is not the case for everyone and does not work for all drugs but feels the truth is always best.
