Combinations - fluoxetine and effects on other recreational drugs?

Hi SWIM has been on 20mg of fluoxetine a day for a few months now and has tried lsd and pot and they work just fine but swim recently took ecstacy and it gave swim no euphoria just a massive sense of paranoia and insanity.
so what other drugs can swim take with a fair degree of saftey and euphoria?

Anything not to do with serotonin and/or metabolized by the enzyme CYP2D6. Often any 'pleasant' effects of the recreational drug will simply not be experienced, but one will be left with all the unpleasantness with more intensity. Ecstacy basically dumps all of the brain's serotonin very quickly and that can lead to a period of intense euphoria. With an SSRI such as fluoxetine the process will be inhibited as many of the same sites and pathways are acted upon by both drugs, causing some unwanted interactions. Therefore opioids and ecstacy are definitely out of the picture.

If SWIY are looking for a quick few moments of euphoria, perhaps SWIY are not letting SWIYs self get better from the depression/anxiety for which fluoxetine was provided. Perhaps SWIY should take nothing recreationally, and instead focus on regaining his mental and physical wellbeing, by eating healthily, exercising and drinking plenty of water, and then with basic health in tact he can be honest with himself and find out what really needs to be done in his life to give him some real, lasting happiness, instead of an artificial quick fix.

Hey,

so Swim was switched from temazepam to prozac last week.. weird I know. But anyway, swim wants to know if there will be any negative affects (aside from the usual) of smoking weed, taking ket, amphetamines, mdma etc?

Swim isn't sure if the medication could cause swim to pass out or experience bad come downs or what.. any help?

Not sure, maybe I'm wrong, but if swiy mixes an SSRI with amphetamines won't that cause life threatening problems?(seizures, stroke, hypertensive crisis, etc.) Maybe I'm wrong.

mixing prozac (an SSRI) with amphetamines or mdma (as well as many other drugs) can cause serotonin syndrom, which could cause death at its worst. heres some more info on serotonin syndrom - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome

marijuana shoudnt cause anything problematic. swim used to smoke weed while on prozac when he was a teen.

SWIM used to be on prozac.
SWIM used to take alot of eckies.
SWIM found that the prozac seemed to "replenish" his serotonin and allow multiple days of rolling on the X with no real comedown.
SWIM would agree that its dangerous though, as you have the prozac trying to control the reuptake and mdma forcing lots of it out into the synapse.
i would stay away if i were you, swim warns me that he had many bad experiences on E, but he doesnt touch the stuff anymore. he's more an opiate man now :P

SWIM has been on prozac for years now first it was 20mg then they put it up to 40 and SWIM took e's, ket, coke, amphetamines, mdma, crack, weed and heroin a lot as she had always done before and saw no side effects from the prozac ever. So SWIM thinks she might have SWIY covered for any drug that SWIY may wish to use.

People on SSRI's commonly have no "magic" from MDMA. It generally blocks this resulting in an anxious, jumpy speedy state. That, aside from the risk of the above-mentioned serotonin-syndrome, is reason not to mix these drugs.

Considering the profound, and long lasting, changes drugs such as fluoxetine (Prozac) brings about, I'd strongly advise SWIM to see another doctor. SSRI antidepressants should be pulled off the market.

in SWIM's case he was very careful at first but cocaine, mdma, amphetamines stayed about the same response for SWIM. People throw around serotonin syndrome but its actually very hard to overdose, one would consider not being an idiot and having fun responsibly.

Neurochemistry is very different for every person, but SWIM has a notion that SSRIs will compete with serotonin stimulants and are probably less effective.

SWIM's first mdma experience, at Disneyland :P, was during a period where SWIM was taking lexapro. SWIM took some extra lex that day, but nevertheless SWIM had the best mdma experience of his life.

Comedowns : with stimulants, SSRIs are a slight blessing the next day in their ability to mediate equilibrium, slightly but surely, in serotonin levels.

It may be an obvious, but swim suggests not to take anything with strong MAOI effects while in prozac (or other SSRI) therapy this includes the brew Ayahuasca or Hoasca and perhaps sexual and weightloss herbal stuff containing yohimbine (though swim is not sure on the MAOI strenght of yohimbe extracts).

Swim is not sure it is true but was told while in Brazil, some Brazillians have died from consuming SSRIs like prozac with Ayahuasca, I am guessing it is serotonin syndrome?

You should be just fine with the vast majority of drugs. You generally only need to avoid other serotonin-elevating drugs such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors and monoamine oxidase inhibitors as combination can lead to serotonin syndrome. Only dextromethorphan and tramadol are really of concern when it comes to serotonin syndrome and recreational drugs. Avoid any other antidepressants while you're on it of course. Note that SSRIs will also diminish the effects of serotonin releasers like MDMA, MDA, AET, AMT, and so forth, as well as slightly potentiate psychedelics such as LSD, magic mushrooms, mescaline, DMT, 2C-B, and so on. These interactions are not really dangerous in the slightest however.

swim gets a great effect of weed on fluoxetine but as it hasn't been scripted to swim and he is now running out of fluoxetine because his source has been put on citalopram the search is now on any help would be appreciated

SWIM finds a decreased euphoria from opiates, an increased effect from propylhexedrine, and a weird, paranoid feeling from weed while on SSRIs. She's heard that SSRIs negate any positive effects of ecstasy and that it's a waste of time to take it while on them but that they can be helpful after the fact w/ depression and such.

SWIM finds drinking large amounts of alcohol over a sustained period of time (5 days) while on fluoxetine increases the liklihood of tremors and muscle spasms once the alcohol intake has stopped. SWIMS friends had no such tremors. Any thoughts?
