Question on codeine Withdrawal
So Swim has been using codeine recreationaly for a few months. using anywhere from 10 - 15 T1 pills in a CWE, and doing this roughly 3 times a week.
This summer, Swim was going through some tough times including his father passing away and went on a bit of a binge doing CWE 6 of 7 days. Swim went about 48 hours without any codeine and woke up with really achy joints, nausea and a vicious migraine (which swim is prone to anyway, in fact why swim got codeine in the first place) and really thirsty. Feeling awful swim took imitrex for the migraine and later suspecting this may be WD took 3 T1's to ease it a bit, and some gravol. Swim got through the rest of the day ok though gravol makes swim feel lethargic for hours. The next day swim again has a migraine, diarhea, achy joints and some stomach cramping, but over feels a bit better than yesterday. Swim plans on not taking any codeine at all today. if it gets too bad maybe 1 or 2 T1s, but the plan is none. If indeed swim is going through some withdrawal, his question is how long should he wait to take codeine again and not have to go through this afterward? In other words how long does it generaly take to get detoxed, and be able to take codeine, either medicinaly or recreationaly, without triggering WD again? I know he would like to thank anyone for any information, in advance. |

Re: Question on codeine Withdrawal
first off....codeine withdrawl regardless of your tolerance is not really a big deal. one day of aches is the most it will ever be

Re: Question on codeine Withdrawal
Well I have looked around at a few message boards and on a few people claiming to be doctors or medical students have said it is better to reduce dosage over time than go cold turkey.
Based on the stories of many others codeine withdrawal can certainly amount to more than one day of aches. ( I was also saddened by the number using a lot of T1s daily without CWE!)The vast majority had very similar stories of 4 or 5 days of aches, running nose, vomiting, nausea, diarhea, headache, restless legs at night, and lethargy. I'm not even 100% certain swim is going through withdrawal, given it has been such a stressful and sad time for him, it could just be his body reacting to everything. Anyway Swim decided to take a slightly lower dose of codeine tonight and see how he feels over the next few days. He mostly just wanted to know if this was likely to be a problem should he chose to continue occasional recreational use. |

Re: Question on codeine Withdrawal
Swim found to feel extremely sick after taking 450mg DHC with tolerance (unsure how similar it is to codeine but my opion anway...). His symptoms of sickness and nausea lasted about 15 hours while this is probley a sign of OD and not WD He thought he would throw that in there.
Razorbladekiss added 1 Minutes and 26 Seconds later... In swims opinion it would probley be best to lower swiy's doseage and see how it goes. Is this the first time swiy has started taking codiene via CWE? If so it may very well be a reaction to it all. Last edited by Razorbladekiss; 01-08-2008 at 21:28. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
