Campaign Update: New video!
Greetings all!
For those interested in my progress with campaigning against the war on drugs, we have posted a new video on youtube from a forum I recently attended. I didn't get to say everything I wanted to say unfortunately, but we all had a great time, and the crowd was very comfortable to talk to. For those who are unaware, the Tiger Bay club is one of the most prestigious political groups in Florida (Governor Charlie Crist was going to attend, but was out of town unfortunately.) Take a look! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_iFYAQT1V8 Thanks - hope everyone is doing well, John Shaw Independent Candidate Florida House of Representatives, District 9 |

Re: Campaign Update: New video!
The odds of winning, statistically, are very small. There has never been an independent to win a house election in the state of Florida, and I'd be the youngest candidate to ever win, as well. However, there are many factors at play this year that better my chances. The big one that I'm hoping on is for the young vote - and I can count on there being a lot more college students voting due to the presidential election (especially with Obama running). There is no incumbent, either. I am the only independent left running in the race, and there are two Republicans (Republicans don't win this seat, either) and one Democrat.
The Democrat filed litigation against the other Democrat that was running for violating the "Resign to Run" rule of the qualification process, which turned a lot of supporters against her. This also might improves my chances, to an extent. If I didn't think I could win, I wouldn't be running - I'll put it that way. It would be a long shot, but I'm placing a lot of hope, faith, and energy into this campaign. It's a wonderful opportunity, and I'm very glad to be able to do it. Plus, it gets people talking, at the very least. I know that even if I don't win, I will be able to effectively expedite the process of ending this long-standing prohibition. My supporters include family, friends, clients from my computer business, and several people that have come up to me expressing their support. I've received donations from all over the country, too. It's wonderful how generous people are. Thanks for asking! John |
