I'm helping a guy get through fentnyl patch WD and his family ain't helping at all!

They flushed his supply of codeine tablets he was suing to take the
edge off, they poured out his alcohol, they destroyed his xanax tabs.

Basically they are doing everything in their power to drive him either
back to the patches or onto something worse,he doesn't have to money to
get out on his own right now.

They refuse to understand the physical aspect of opiate
addiction, insisting its all in his head and I am helping him continue
on using "Drugs".

They don't even want me talking to him, and hes about to go nuts as
they are making it as hard as possible so he will remember it and never
touch the stuff again.

This is bullshit but I really don't know how to get through to these
people that hes gonna end up on heroin or in a psych ward going cold
turkey and hes not willing to move away.

Anyone have any advice

My advice would be to sit down with the family and discuss some of the details about his addiction. how with opiate dependancy you cannot just say "i'm done" sometimes. if they are really into helping him then they'd relize how much they really hurt him... Keep supporting him, and hell if u can tell that the pills help him, then you hold onto them, and give them to him when he needs them... or figure something out... if your close to the family i'd defentally go talk to them first and see how much u can get across to them... familys are understanding if they know how difficult something is

I agree that you really need to sit down with the family and talk about it. They are not doing what they are out of cruelty..it's ignorance. I can only imagine how difficult it is to see your child destroying themselves through addiction. I've only seen it from the addict's side before.

You need to arm yourself with some information about addiction and withdrawal, maybe even leave it with them to read through. Try doing a google and print some stuff off to educate them about it.

Also, there are organisations to help families of addicts, families anonymous being one http://www.familiesanonymous.org

You keep doing your best to support him, he must be going through a hell of a time right now and will need all the friends he can.

Well I hadn't heard from him since last night, hes doing ok drinking a
lot of smirnoff and orange juice and rationing a couple of vics he got
off his sis.

This whole thing started when he wanted to sell the patches so he
didn't use them just codeine, he got them after he fell off a roof onto
a fence and messed up his back (yea, everclear) So he had a two month
supply built up when he decides to use one and likes it alot at some
point he got to two at a time. Hes not too bad just panicing and when
he told his family they flipped out, this all started when he ran out
and they found him crying in the corner of his room or something not
sure on this.

Anyway watch out on opiates is the moral, they WILL addict you used sufficiently.

Unico- it's good that your helping a friend out like this, it sounds like his family is very irrational, and quick to jump to the gun. Something that he will need through his time away from his opiates is support, and someone to bull shit with. Everyone needs someone like Unico in their life. Was he crying because of them getting mad at him? Or because he was using the patches? Best of luck to your friend

A bit of history which you may already be aware: Morphine addicts
were given herion for withdrawal. Now herion addicts are given
methadone for treatment. I tryed myself to subsitute vicodin and
alchohol for valium.

Substition of chemicals which produce the same effect of what one is
trying to get off of in my experience only prolong the recovery
process. If one must substitute for a chemical try to find one thats
not in the same family and is far less habit forming. I had some pretty
rough times when I wanted off those blues and I found some relief (not
much but better than none) with otc herbal teas pills etc. Try Lotus
blossom and passion flower extracts. Good luck and hope I was of some
help.
