Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
I have had such a terrible time consuming poppy pod tea. When i start preparing this disgusting mixture, my mouth starts to water and i start to dry heave, in preperation for the absolutely horrid fluid that i know will soon be poured down my throat. This all ended today.
POPPY POD PUDDING! 1 box instant pistacio pudding mix 2 cups water Very finely ground pods Stir for 5 minutes and you are good to go. Completely masks the taste. I would eat this stuff even if it didnt have any psychoactive ingredients in it. You simply cannot even tell its in there. Try it --- you will not be disappointed. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Please read the rules on self incrimination.
Thanks for sharing your friend's recipe, though. Something swim (someone other than myself) has done for their wife in cases of a medical need is heat the tea until it evaporates to a sludge and put the sludge into gel caps - seems to pass the taste bud completely. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
What weight of ground pods does SWIY put in?
What does the complete pudding weigh? How does the potency compare with tea? SWIM thinks that tea is normally just the start of messing around with poppies for most. After a while very few can hack that awful taste. That's when they move onto better methods. Cheers for sharing a new one; I'd never of thought of poppy pudding. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
SWIM doesnt have much of a tolerance at the moment, and this is the first experimentation with this method. He has done tea and evaporation extracts previously, as well as trying to gag down raw dried pods themselves but it has been 2-3mos since the last time he tried any of these methods. Of those methods he said raw pods was almost impossible to do, tea was very tough to stomach and almost always lead to puking, and the evaporation extract was easy to handle but very time consuming.
He said he used 7 "giants" (i guess you could call them that they seem to keep getting smaller every time i order them). This guy told me he was only half way through the pudding and already had a good buzz going. He would rank this experience right up there with crude extract but with no waste. He said no nausea was present yet that always occoured with the tea for him. He didnt weigh the pudding or the grounds, but he would estimate that you could get away with 30% pod powder 70% pudding without noticing the taste at all. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
SWIM told me the key wasnt so much the flavor but the texture that was key to his successful experiment

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
swim doesnt understand this talk of "disgusting" tea. yes, he realizes it definitely doesnt taste good, and its all a matter of preference anyway, but swiy must have never tried morning glorys. *shudder*

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
SWIM is wondering what other SWIMmers think about the efficiency of consuming pods raw versus making a tea and consuming the leftovers after extraction using one of the methods listed above.
SWIM thanks you all for the great food ideas, he was always thinking of a way to make ground pods palatable. The tea does give SWIM nausea, and driving in a car while on pod tea makes it exponentially worse. That's where Zofran(Ondansetron) comes in for SWIM. If SWIY has problems with nausea, SWIM highly recommends this drug. If SWIY's insurance covers Zofran, then SWIY is set; otherwise, SWIY is recommended to avoid vehicles(since price discussion is not allowed). SWIM apologizes for the long lecture, he believes it might be of interest to at least one reader. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
What do you all think about using 25 large pods? Any change to the recipe.
Also, sometimes swim makes tea out of the seeds and straw, any suggestions for that? Thanks a lot for the suggestion! |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Swim tried this with vanilla pudding and it did mask the taste. The texture and appearance bothered swim though and didn't like the feeling of having to eat a bunch of it as opposed to gulping some tea in one or two swigs. So swim will stay with the tea for now but he said that it did mask the taste of the poppies so seems like a valid method.

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Normally SWIM uses an elaborate gelatin-filter and reduction technique to make solid stuff, but occasionally still makes tea. When he does so he reduces the liquid in an open, fan-assisted oven (at 50 degrees) down to less than half a pint. This is easy to just bolt down no matter how bad it tastes.
OD WARNING: Only do this if SWIY knows the strength of the pods. DON'T REDUCE A HEAVY TEA! |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
SWIM found that ramen soup really did the trick for him. He just put parts of the pod onto each bite. Would be even easier if he was using ground up pods. He likes the taste of tea, so he really doesn't bother with it. He was also able to stomach eating nutmeg, so go figure.

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
This works with any type of soup or chilli as SWIM found out. SWIM last nite tried the GFJ poppy slurry method and found it to be absolutely disgusting despite what others said, it did not mask the taste well at all. Chilli or Soup is the way 2 go, as you can't even taste it at all

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Are you just eating the dried poppy pods raw? Couldn't they contain a hefty amount of bacteria? If the guy who cut them stepped on them in his sandals just after he'd been mucking out the goats?

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Lol yes SWIM is doing that because the tea doesnt fully extract all the alkaloids where as eating the straw raw SWIyou gets all the alkaloids. As for bacteria SWIM thinks as long as they were properly dried this shouldnt be an issue. hopefully

LOL
Nice one, might try it myself. It's probably best not to think about whats on the bottom of the goat-herders sandals anyway. |

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Swim just made tea for the first time with 7 medium heads ( no stems or crowns or seeds). I got the water/calcium carbonate/lemon juice barely boiling, took it off the oven and added finely ground pods. covered and let sit for 15 minutes stirring occasionally. when it was done he tasted the product with a spoon "mm not so bad" than as Swim started to drink it had such an awful taste he almost puked, he had probably 2 cups of it to drink total and it just wasn't going smoothly. Hopefully in an hour swim will feel real good else he's gonna be pissed that he had to go through that haha.
Swim is really interested in trying different methods. Thanks for this topic |

I really like this idea. SWIM may try it tonight. Fresh pods are just terrible. SWIM is glad to find an alternative.

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
SWIM tried strawberry yogurt with the pods but found the taste/texture very disgusting. Gaged every time SWIM swallowed some but it did work very efficiently since your eating the entire pod.
Next time SWIM will try with chocolate pudding to see if its better. |

this makes SWIM glad he's able to usually choke down anything if it will get him the desired results.

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Applesauce is also a good masker for pods, if ground down to a powder. Or so I have heard.

Re: Never drinking tea again, Poppy pod pudding
Since I last posted USPS has made their tracking system functional, I guess it was all the bad press from the opium guys.
SWIM suggests method one because of the simplicity. SWIM has given up on smoothies and mixing with food. Here's the refined process which works perfectly: 1. Grind all pod material in blender. 2. Use coffee grinder to achieve flour consistency. 3. Weigh appropriate amount and put in bottle with milk and chocolate syrup. 4. Shake to even consistency then drink. 5. Rinse bottle with a little milk and syrup to make sure nothing is wasted. For SWIM, this seems to be the most efficient method, which is why he suggests it for SWIY, but with as much as SWIY has, there's no reason not to go experimenting on small amounts of the batch. SWIM definitely recommends testing the different methods and seeing which you prefer before putting all your eggs in one basket. Also, 9lb is a whole lot of pods. Be sure that SWIM saves a taper-down stash and adjusts for tolerance accordingly. SWIM has to take a break about every 100 pods(he knows it's an abstract number, but everyone makes their own over time) because he gets to the point of using three times a day, and then one day it's "oh shit, I don't feel anything, I hope I have enough to beat the withdrawals." SWIM is currently going through that after a month-long binge, and it isn't fun(only has himself to blame, he couldn't resist "just a little bit more"). He can't imagine what would happen with 9lb. |
