Dose - Benzos vs. Clonidine

SWIM is prescribed 0.5 mg Clonazepam for anxiety. SWIM has read that Clonidine is sometimes used to treat anxiety and acts similarly to benzos. SWIM was wondering if anyone knew an approximate dose for similar effects to the Clonazepam...or even if someone can compare it to other benzos, since there's that thread on benzo dosages.

Quite different. The α2 adrenergic is also avail in small dose pills (.5mg), and may actually be dosed similarly. The effects are different. Although they both can cause sedation, the benzo will also relieve more anxiety, and have far fewer systemic effects (hypotension, temp regulation). They are really indicated for diff. things. The benzo for long term anxiety. The clonidine for either hypertension, or to relieve some of the increased ne related symptoms experienced (due to increased ne production), during opioid wd.

Plus, clonidine is an unscheduled drug, world-wide.
