Does hemp create a pollutant by-product, as a fuel source?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

A person recently asked me my thoughts on alternative fuel sources. Without hesitation, I replied with hemp, as hemp was a very natural and wealthy crop before prohibition. The person then asked me "well, wouldn't hemp pollute in some way?"

What is the answer to that question? What would the by-product be? If anyone has any clues to this, let me know

Thanks!

I don't follow your argument. "Natural and wealthy" doesn't indicate feasibility for production of alternative fuels. I would suggest read into the current research on biofuels and other energy sources (solar, aeolic, etc.) instead of just naming hemp.

With the proper scrubbers and other approved measures in place, probably be no worst than other fuel sources.

Re: Does hemp create a pollutant by-product, as a fuel source?

more important, the carbon emissions would be more balanced than with fossil fuels, because the hemp had recently taken the carbons out of the air in the first place.. fossil fuels stopped being part of the cylce long ago and so just add polution. living plants reduce polutants in the air and so plants recently grown would only add the polutants that they Just took out.

Re: Does hemp create a pollutant by-product, as a fuel source?

Many crops can be harvested and then fermented to produce ethanol, which can the be used as a biofuel.

Traditionally, the source for this biofuel is corn, sugar cane, or several others. The problem is that many of these crops are intensive and expensive to produce and harvest.

Advocates of hemp fuel cite examples like the high cellulose content of hemp fiber, its low fertilization requirement for growth, resilience to drought, and fast growth rate among other reasons why hemp would be a superior source for biofuel.

Hemp and the sort of cannabis one would try and smoke are very different things. The cannabinoid content of commerically produced hemp is tiny to insignificant.

Not to mention the significant positive impact it would have on our global ecosystem. Even if it hemp contained a lot of THC, it would be very beneficial to use it as a fuel source anyway.
