Ritalin vs. Adderall

swim thought the answer was easy, adderall over ritalin any day, but the more swim reads he notices some prefer ritalin (suprising to swim).
Swim wants to get a poll up, between ritalin and adderall. Plz include in responses but not poll prefered route of administration and maybe dosage.

SWIM finds adderall to be much more fun than ritalin, although he likes both. He doesn't like the short duration of ritalin, or the semi-shitty comedown. Seems once he reaches a certain spot with ritalin he can't get anymore good effects out of it, just bad ones.
Anyway, SWIM finds it funny that all these adderall threads are popping up but he can't find any for the goddamn life of him. He's been searching for weeks.
Argh.

Swim tried ritalin a few time for study purposes but it just gave him headaches so he quickly gave up on it. He knows some people who are prescribed it who like it however.

All recreational users he knows like adderall much better, as he does.

He prefers to take a 30mg XR before going to a party to have a nice sociable time.

Otherwise, adderall is more of a study drug than a party drug for him, so the dosage varies according to his study needs.

It's like comparing cocaine and methamphetamine. Ritalin is pretty much like a low-grade cocaine buzz while adderall low-grade methamphetamine buzz. But I still prefer Adderall cause it lasts wayy longer but I think the Ritalin buzz can be more euphoric... Altought something very nice is taking some Adderall (like 30mg of the instant release of crushed XR) and after like 3 hours u took it snort a line of like 20mgs of methylphenidate (Ritalin) ... that's VERY EUPHORIC AND ENJOYABLE

Although swim is much more of a downer person, for the purposes of studying and for the recreational value adderall is far superior in his opinion. ritalin is only something swim would use if he had it for free and had nothing else to use for the same purpose.

swim doesnt particularly care for stimulants, but he uses them in a utilitarian fashion on occasion, such as when he needs to focus, stay alert, or accomplish alot of work. when this happens, he prefers adderall since it allows him to do all these things more effectively than ritalin, plus the rush is a bit better (although the crash is larger too).

Funny swim actually gets far worse crashes from ritalin, swim would do a 2 day binge maybe on addy and have a tiny crash (mostly from not eating) but a few lines of ritalin gave swim a nice rush for an hour or 2 then a horrible crash for 5 lol...

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

Definitely Adderall! SWIM usually breaks a 30mg IR in half, pops half and snorts the other. This method provides for a good immediate rush, but doesn't waste all of the adderall like snorting all of it would.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

SWIM agrees that a direct comparison between the two is kind of hard as both have their positive and negative aspects.

When alcohol is mixed into the equation, SWIM prefers methylphenidate(railed) as Adderall tends to produce a slightly sick feeling. Adderall will keep you going all night, but it will also keep you going all morning and all afternoon. For recreational purposes, like prolonging a night of drinking/partying, methylphenidate's shorter duration is prefered as it allows SWIM to sleep. However when used alone, without alcohol, methylphenidate only seems to have pleasant effects under 40mgs at which point SWIM feels sick.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

SWIM finds that Adderall does close to nothing to SWIM at all. Snorting Ritalin is almost like doing lines of coke (although not as strong). SWIM has never really been a big fan of amphetamines or methamphetamine though.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

Agree with a few of the above posters that it is difficult to choose one over the other. To *me* ritalin parallels coke, albeit less potent, for the first 20-30 minutes (insufflated) and then turns you into a jittery mess with no central effects and plenty of peripheral effects for about 2 hours. Then you get to do it again. It seems the peripheral effects wane each time if you keep doing it and the central stimulation stays about the same. For me it actually becomes more enjoyable the longer I do it, up to a point. But for a drug that is marketed for ADD, I think it's crap. I can focus for 20-30 minutes and then I'm scatterbrained. Adderall is qualitatively different. The rush isn't as strong but its smooth, clean energy and you're motivated to accomplish things. I just feel cracked out on ritalin. I think that due to adderall's strong motivational properties it is the superior drug, but it builds tolerance fast. 2-3 days of high dosing and 150 mg has no effect. Ritalin tolerance drops back to baseline really quickly. I don't know. I like both, ritalin for the nice 20 min rush, adderall for everything else. If I were offered 100 of either I'd take the adderall.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

SWIM, like most, prefers adderall. As mentioned in a previous post,
methylphenidate is reported to have more of a cocaine-like buzz - shorter duration and more intense high. Unfortunately, along with this comes extremely pronounced "highs and lows" or mood swings. The highs can be amazing, and the lows can be amazingly unpleasant.

Adderall, or amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, on the other hand, presents a longer lasting, more consistent high (at least for SWIM).

Furthermore, SWIM has seen reports of methylphenidate possibly being carcenogenic.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

SWIM prefers adderall over ritalin.

SWIM found that very very very finely crushing up 30xr focalin or 30xr adderall and snorting the powder (in 60mg rails) is an enjoyable dosage. SWIM uses adderall mostly to aid in studying, as SWIM doesn not have a perscription. SWIM also will snort 60-90mg recreationally, producing the eurphoric and "twitchy" effects that SWIM feels when on coke. SWIM enjoys the somewhat immediate effects of snorting the adderall/focalin and the cost benefits of adderall.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

Think that maybe dexmethylphenidate should be added to the poll, though its a bit late.

Swim finds that this is his preferred stimulant for study purposes, right next to Adderall + Kava.

Otherwise yeah, adderall is great for all-nighters.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

Adderall be the best of the best in SWIMS opinion. Has a decent half-life and its effects hit you hard. Adderall does wonders on ones GPA. But then again SWIM has not had a chance to try Sir Ritalin.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

SWIM enjoys Adderall. However..SWIM prefers Ritalin.

Ritalin allows SWIM to get euphoric and feel great without obsessing over sex. When SWIM takes adderall (or any amphetamine esp. meth), SWIM obsesses over sex and self stimulation.

Ritalin does everything that adderall does without the sexual compulsiveness and obsessiveness. Adderall gets SWIM horny (but is unable to keep a raging erection or has trouble ejaculating) , but Ritalin does not do this to SWIM.

Re: Adderall v. Ritalin

Thinking about this more, swm almost feels that Focalin (Dexmethylphenidate) is better than adderall for study purposes. Ritalin and Concerta give him headaches and other side effects sometimes, and in general barely help him focus. Adderall helps him focus and gives him energy but he can get too speedy very easy, so its better to use for all-nighters when he can use the extra energy.

Focalin focuses swim quite a bit, and has intense effects, but doesn't get swim all jittery and cause him to lose focus or simply be distracted and focus too much on other stuff. Its right up there with Kava + Adderall, and in fact swim hopes to try Kava and Focalin sometime to see how it goes together.

Basically swim says screw Methylphenidate, Dexmethylphenidate is much much better, though he hasn't seen it around as much. Adderall is good, but more for recreational or specific uses such as all-nighters or cleaning / organizing the house than for study purposes.

Just some thoughts, as swim is really wishing he had focalin now!

Re: Adderall, ritalin

SWIM believes both are Class B and therefore equivalent with US Schedule II, thus both should be legal, but only with a prescription. Also, SWIM is sure that info was elsewhere, such as in the comprehensive info thread, so please use the search engine. And read the rules please; the link is everywhere. Re: Ritalin vs. Adderall

There is a massive difference in effects in SWIM's opinion. For example, Ritalin brings a very slight speedy feeling and a moderate mood lift with a higher dose. Adderall being a mix of true amphetamine generally brings a much more energetic feeling and euphoria.

In reguards to treating ADD, Adderall seems superior in every way. However it also brings about a much more noticeable crash or 'come down' which usually manifests as depression among other things. And also (again, in SWIM's opinion) much easier to become dependant on.
