Propoxyphene Expiration

SWIM got a hold of some Darvocets. They are darvocets with APAP in them. The pills read "Darvocet N 100", swim researched that these are 100mg of Propoxyphene.

SWIM wants to take 2 for his first time; however, the bottle says "Refill before 1/1/05."

Are these still potent? SWIM can't find anywhere what happens to these pills after a long period of time.

Thanks,
Sal-A

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

They probably would be OK to take, i doubt they could do any harm, but just double check for paracetamol but i can't imagine it would degrade in to something toxic. Even although they probably will be OK to take, dextropropoxyphene is a very weak opioid and has very little or no recreational value. Frankly i think they are useless and it is not worth the trouble to possibly extract the paracetamol. There are a lot of Adverse Effects from dextropropoxyphene, so i would check those out as well.

Just one thing on that date, it says refill before 1//05, is that the same as a use by date? I don't know how refills and such work in the US, so it might just be a refill date and no necessarily a use by date, just a thought.

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

That reminds the time swim came across some codeine with paracetamol that were way expired he ended up taking the whole bottle. No harm came of swim but he does not remember getting to much fun out of the whole thing.

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

Yes, it is also the "use by" date.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

Well, they did work; however, the experience was not very pleasant.

SWIM first took 2, then read more about the drug, and eventually took 4 (the most he had/was willing to induce damage upon his liver).

It came on slow...peaked at 2 hours. But it was generally some head rushes at first, then nausea which occured a lot if swim moved to suddenly. He felt very drowsy (when swim finally decided to go to sleep, it helped a lot). But swim felt very warm, time went slowly listening to music.

He would have day dreams that became vivid when he closed his eyes, kind of like a deliriant, except swim would eventually snap out of them (Note that swim had these when coming down from dxm, but the dxm ones were far stronger, rather than faintly seeing these daydreams, he would be cast into one). They were mostly random thoughts about work or some people swim knows.

SWIM also noticed a mild floaty feel in his eyes. When he looked at something, his vision would float upwards.

That was pretty much it until swim fell asleep, intentionally....and he slept for a long time.

Not impressed with the drug, but swim thinks he is a little opiate tolerant (he had a decent resistance to salvia and vicodin.....compared to most people).

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

Propoxyphene is the absolute most useless opiate on earth aside from maybe buprenorphine hands down.Even when swim was a relatively new opiate user and didn't have a high tolerance it still took a pretty high amount of propoxyphene to do anything for him.Just not even worth the trouble really.

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

Uh well it might do something for someone who has no tolerance to opiates but for opiate addicts it is pretty much useless. All it does is take away the physical withdrawals but in no way takes away a persons psychological need for opiates. This is why I think maintenance opiates should atleast offer some euphoria or sedation.

Re: Propoxyphene Expiration

Expired or not, my panda feels that propoxyphene just isn't worth using.
