Effects - salvia foliage vs extract?

I'm looking into buying a kilo of Salvia Divinorum Foliage but I'm a bit skeptic. I've only used the 10x extract, never foliage of the plant, so I was just wondering if its the same effects if smoked or if you need to extract it yourself.
