How does one coin the term "Psychedelia"?

Psychedelic is a word you can use to describe ________. Try to finish that sentence. Go right ahead. See how long it takes you to find the right words to describe the infinite magical wisdom found within the 1x1 piece of cardboard that you found from a drifter.

How is psychedelic described in your opinion? It is more than just a state of mind, more of a state of being. An awareness that you have that can never be described through any language you've ever learned.

Psychedelia is an infinite mystical wonderland and also a horrid ugly monster. It can be what you want it to, but it takes you farther than you knew you could go. This almost creates a desperate wanting for more information about things you could never even begin to comprehend. Extra dimensions, god, the Universe, a collective soul, etc.

Share your opinions on your definition of "Psychedelia".

P.S. If this post is a bit scrambled, it's because SWIM is glowing on two hits

Our human words, so limited in scope, can only give boundaries to what is infinite.

That sir was full of candy and win

It can only be experienced. Like trying to explain the sunset to a blind man.

Re: How does one coin the term "Psychedelia"?

Yes, which is why in the 1950s Humphrey Omond along with Aldous Huxley had to create a new word in the English language, 'psychedelic'. It's as if that kind of experience had been completely lost from western cultures, so the language to describe it had disappeared as well.

Here is the source:
Quote:
1956, of drugs, suggested by H. Osmond in a letter to Aldous Huxley and used by Osmond in a scientific paper published the next year; from Gk. psykhe- "mind" + deloun "make visible, reveal," from delos "visible, clear." Psychedelia is from 1967.

I think it was Tim Leary who once said "LSD opens a door within your mind, but it's up to you whether or not you step in that door."

This rings true for me.
