Swim is in a dilemma. He went to the Dr's office yesterday with a horrible, persistent, reverberating cough. He told them during the exam that he had been taking Robitussin DM (DXM and Guaf.) and was receiving no relief. They prescribed him Robitussin AC (Codeine and Guaf.), a steroid, an inhaler, and a decongestant. By this afternoon, Swim had gone through the 6oz of cough syrup because he could not keep it down due to the nausea the medicine gave him and the coughing which never subsided. He called the office this afternoon and the nurse phoned in a script to the pharmacy. When he went to pick it up, they said it was Atuss DM which is DXM and Guaf. and wanted to charge swim $107 for it! Swim's brother-in-law is a pharmacist and he said they probably prescribed that because they thought swim was drug seeking and to get him to go away. His persistent cough is still there though and is getting worse. Swim is considering going back to the office tomorrow, but if they already think he is pushing for narcotics he doesn't want to waste the $100 for a worthless visit. Swim has been to the office numerous times for the same thing and has always felt better after a day or two with Avalox and Histuss HC or Atuss HC.

What should swim do?

This has happened to swim before once they down grade swim to the non narcotics swim is fucked no matter how bad your cough is. Its becoming a huge problem in the states and is an epidemic in south and texas.

Shit if swim wanted drugs he could go to a dealer. It's much easier to get this shit off the streets. Cheaper sometimes too. Swim guesses real problems have to suffer. Swim doesn't get it.

Swim abused his dr for a while and then the one time he really really needed it it wasn't their swim was force to go to jazz fest in New Orleans with the worst cough ever. Swim was miserable and ended up suppressing his cough with a lot of oxycodone.

Swim is usually prescribed painkillers when he goes to the Dr, but he only goes when he actually has problems. Why futz about with a doctor's office when it's readily available if you just want to get high? Swim doesn't understand their logic. This isn't the first time he's been to this office with the same symptoms either. He's gotten brochitis/upper respiratory infections multiple times over the past couple years (damned cigarettes).

I do not know if they have insurance or a socialized medical system somewhere over the rainbow. but with good insurance in the states swim can get drugs that are pure potent and hundreds of dollars cheaper.

i live in Canada and every time i had a cough or bronchitis my family doctor would prescribe 240ml of Hycodan cough syrup...which is pure hydrocodone with no other ingredients besides flavoring. its basically vicodin without the tylonal

get a new doc!

Swim went back to the Dr today. They wrote me a script for Tussionex.

tussionex is one of the best. Only thing better is pure hydrocodone or codeine with prometh.

Yep, liquid gold is an apt name. It really helps with swim's cough. I guess swim's doctor didn't really think he was drug seeking.

in texas they mix it with sprite and crushed ice. But they know to drink the tuss straight because it does not mix well and taste so wonderfully good. Also people who sip a lot of syrup have been known to gain lots of weight 10 20 30 pounds or more.. its so sugary

SWIM should be very careful with Tussionex. It's a poly-styrex amalgamation with the hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine - so it's slow-release. Taking too much of this can make SWIM sick as a dog for a long time. Yuck! Used for it's intended purpose, it's probably the best cough-suppressant out there. Blocks the cough-reflex with the hydrocodone, and drys out secretions through the antihistaminic action.

excellent point. Swim never remember drinking tussionex for its high and if swim did it was in a low dose

I am just completely astounded that they attempted to charge $107 for fucking cough medicine, excuse my language but i am utterly bewildered at how they can even attempt to charge such ludicrous prices for such a thing.

I am not really familiar with DXM but isn't chlorpheniramine one of the bad "three C's" in some preparations that should be avoided?

Yeah it can cause NASTY side effects in large doses.

I guess that is something else to keep an eye on... What kind of pharmacy wouldn't point something like that out to a customer?

Swim had some good experiences with tussionex at the beginning of his opiate days.Walking around some local park with horrid country music bands playing.But swim didn't care ha ha.
