Opinions - Do People enjoy smoking Salvia Divinorum?

Hi, My mates cat tried some Salvia the first time the other day. He didn't trip though but He will try it again soon once He mans up to smoke again...

After reading several posts in this forum he concluded that a bong was the way to go with this Drug. Hes completely new to drugs, just somehow got linked to an article on Salvia when reading wikipedia once and thought he would check it out. Other than alcohol he hasnt done anything so he enlisted the help of friend who is a weed user.

His friend showed him how to use a bong and stuff and they both agreed to sit for each other while they tried it. His friend went first and he went on a bit of trip.

When it was his turn he inhaled as much smoke as possible and then almost threw up... No one warned him of the taste, the tinglely feeling in the throat and the burning sensation in the lungs. He held it in for 15 seconds then coughed quite a bit. His experiance was just increased gravity and giggling...

His question is, Do people actually enjoy smoking? Cause he finds it horrible. Is there any other way to take salvia than smoking it or chewing it. Hes not too hot on chewing it either.

There is a tincture available online. swim hears its a pretty unpleasant way of taking Salvia though.

My friend does not enjoy salvia not because of the taste, but because of the feelings it evokes. He would suggest that you try smoking other substances first to get used to the inhalation of smoke.

No. Research shows that those are the only ways commonly accepted to consume salvia. He could use a tincture, but this must also be used sublingually like the leaf material.

There is a report out there that I THINK was written by Daniel Siebert where he describes creating a Salvia/Honey slurry - which in the very least would take care of the taste - but the honey isn't eaten so much as it is held in the mouth - which on further consideration sounds pretty disgusting.

SWIY might look into vaporizers as a more health-conscious alternative to smoking.

If SWIY has avoided smoking things until now - good job...for the most part smoking is pretty fucking bad for the lungs. That said - a good number of drugs are smoked.

Smoking can be pleasurable - it can be meditative - SWIM also finds that if he knows he's going to be smoking something particularly harsh, smoking a cigarette as a "primer" will prepare his lungs for harsher smoke (SWIM is not a regular smoker anymore, so even a cigarette is relatively harsh...but much milder than raw plant material etc.) but SWIM ABSOLUTELY wouldn't suggest beginning a tobacco habit just to make a few drug-experiences easier.

Lizard had occasion to smoke (cannabis and the very occ. ciggie) prior to salvia.

He can't say he enjoys the ritual of smoking, per se, or the taste, smell, whatever.

What he does enjoy is the onset of effects that are so closely linked to smoke exhalation...particularly when using extracts vs. plain leaf, there's a second or two of waiting during exhalation--when it's just too late to back out--that reminds lizard strongly of just cresting the first hill on a roller coaster, when the "clank, clank" stops as the cars begin to descend of thier own will...

extract gets a little harsh, especially someone who's a non-smoker. but the regular leaf isn't all that bad. makes you spit a lot though. it's pretty hard to describe the taste, but it's nothing like tobacco, and kind of like the leafy taste of weed, almost like a common leaf you'd find on the ground. idk it's just different

SWIM doesn't particularly enjoy the taste of salvia but does enjoy the threshold effects. It's an altogether different experience to any other drug he's ever taken. An intense salvia trip can be unpleasant.

The increased gravity effect SWIY felt was exactly what SWIM felt his first time. However this drug show incredible reverse tollerance and a second experience with equal dosage would likely plunge the user into a deeper hole.
If SWIY can 'man up' enough to take that dose again and just trust that the true nature of the drug will reveal itself. SWIY will eventually find the breakthrough dosage. Good luck

SWIM may try some this friday then... He has horrible paranoia about the health risks due to smoking though...

SWIM only wants (atm) to experiance this one though so It shouldnt be a problem.

a bong hit once in a while has no negitive health effects. it does, but it's so miniscule that it shouldn't be of concern at all. even if you smoke up to 5 cigs over the course of the day there's almost nil health effects

^^ Not to be a dick - but the latter part of that statement just isn't true. While it's true that 5 cigarettes in one day as a one-time event probably won't contribute to long-term negative health impact much more than walking around on a highly trafficked urban street - it's wrong to imply that 5 cigarettes a day is insignificant.

In terms of immediate health effects, 5 cigarettes in a day will contribute to an increased heart rate, decreased appetite, and inflammation leading to decreased upper respiratory function.

That's as a one-off. If repeated habitually - 5 cigs a day greatly increases likelihood of addiction and far greater risk of developing heart disease or lung cancer.

From a report on tobacco-use cessation by the US Surgeon General:

* "Just 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and
pulse rate drop to normal and the body temperature of your hands and
feet increases to normal."

* "A mere 8 hours after your last smoke, the carbon monoxide level

Again - I don't mean to preach and am someone who was a regular smoker and still is an occasional smoker - but tobacco-use and addiction is one of the biggest public-health problems we face in developed countries. The best and easiest way to combat it is through education and a greater understanding of just how detrimental habitual tobacco use can be.

Swim does not enjoy the act of smoking the salvia. The smoke is harsh makes him salivate uncontrollably. He does however enjoy the effects.

Salvia in this respect reminds him of dxm in a way. Swim knows a fair amount of people who have tried dxm. Strangely, there are some people who love it and some who think swim is an idiot for ever trying it. Swim tells them, "Listen, the reason swim likes it is because it doesn't make him uncomfortable or sick or have a bad trip like it makes you." Some people just can't grasp that someone could enjoy a trip like that.

Swim finds the case to be similar with salvia. Some of his friends love it and some think anyone who tries it is insane. haha. People are just different.

Swim DOES enjoy smoking Salvia. Swim thinks it tastes and smells better than MJ, and is EASIER to inhale and keep down. Swim almost always uses a pipe to smoke it. this being said, Swim usually smokes 5x or 10x recreationally, not the higher extracts. Swim finds that 1-2 bowls of either is usually sufficiant, and will produce a clear mind, and a calm relaxing feeling.

Swim recommends smoking a couple of bowls of MJ, then on the next bowl, add in a bit of Salvia (5x or 10x) on top. it gives an insane headrush on the exhale and overall good feeling afterwards.

also, its definetly a good idea to start at smaller extracts and work your way up. perhaps others have had bad experiences because they smoked very high extracts first. the effects of low and high extracts of Salvia are quite different.

SWIM has both smoked and orally ingested copious amounts of salvia on numerous occasions, and has never enjoyed it once. Not to mention the occasions when SWIM didn't trip at all.

I guess I could see how people don't enjoy being engulfed into a strange world that makes no sense, and things are barely recongnizeable, and how fast and short it last, but swim looks at it like right after that hit, you lay back, and absorb as much as you can, simply by going with the flow, and letting the drug completely take over, then you'll understand things better. but for those who try to controll the drug, that's why they don't enjoy. and even some who try and let the drug controll subliminally try to take control and try to comprehend whilst tripping.

Well, Swim finds a good way to smoke it is to put some pot in the bottom of the bong, with the salvia sprinkled on top, and also, he finds that putting cold water, and then put some crushed ice and cold water into the bong. That definitely helps to take away any of the harshness you might experience with salvia. swims done it that way every time and its never hurt him, or caused any discomfort or coughing or choking from smoking it at all.

P.S. This does not actually make the experience any less harsh. Swiy will still be tripping his ass off.

Swim smoked some salvia a little bit ago in a bowl mixed with some mj. Swim smoekd a few hits of 20x and felt like he was on a merry go round but didnt feel he tripped very hard. People have told swim mj kills the salvia effect, is this true?

Well, it doesnt kill the effect for swim, but swim also does use the weed with the salvia to feel the effects of the weed, more for the taste, AND the hole in the bottom of his bong is a little big, so the weed helps hold the salvia in the bongs stem, rather than just sucking it through.

swim wasted a bunch of salvia because of the bong hole.... but then swim ripped the end of a cig off , and put the papper down, then the salv. When it comes to mixing with weed, the salvia trip takes over, but it seems like the trips are longer, then swim slippes into being stoned. Swim would rather just have salvia, but swim isn't a big fan of mixing drugs.
