Freebasing/Esterifying Opana (Oxymorphone)

Any thoughts?
SWIM figured dissolving instant release in water, filter papering, blow drying to skim off any gummy binders and freebasing with ammonia would work.

Also, would esterifying using the AA route one would with morphine to heroin work in a similar fashion to get a diacetyloxymorphone acetate? Would the product be able to cross the blood brain barrier in a similarly more efficient way than the original drug?

That doesn't sound like an ideal extraction. Think about it: the tablets are soluble in water... what exactly are you filtering? Check out the solubility of oxymorphone base and oxymorphone hcl. Hint: you want to use an alcohol first.

You only have one free position to esterify due to the ketone at the 6-position. You would end up 3-monoacetyloxymorphone. This molecule would be more lipophilic and would cross the BBB faster, like heroin. Also like heroin, however, the molecule would have to be deacetylated by enzymes in your brain to be active, which might result in a loss in potency.

Apparently oxymorphone is one the most highly sought opioids you can get, is it really wise to mess with such a thing when using it as is will still be very effective? Seems like too much of a risk to mess with this stuff when it looks like a really good drug in the first place.

Of course if it is just for the sake of research then fair enough.
