Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
My cat believes that Solenostemon scutellarioides is usually refered to as coleus blumei. However, coleus is a common flower shop term for the entire genus a few of which are also popular in gardening. My cat thinks that swim should make sure its the right species and then expect an experience somewhere between shrooms and salvia.

Swim was told most coleus found in homes and nurseries are blumei hybrids.Swim should definitely check closer though now that he thinks about it.

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
They look similar and to tell you the truth my cat doesn't really keep a running tally. But he has seen rutundifolius for sure and he thinks others. Scuttelarioides is the only one with thin blade like leaves rather than rounder spade shaped ones he thinks. But if your friend swim where to ask the florist perhaps saying that he was buying for an aunt or someone who'd given him strict orders about this one species he could then get the florist to identify which ones where and which ones weren't blumei. Actually, my cat has seen the full name on the tags before he'll have to read the fine print but perhaps he doesn't need to ask any questions at all.
Oh, and also my cat would like to point out that this plant has not been studied to any significant extent. Swiy should be careful and begin using it in very small doses. Tell him to take note of any strange feelings, pain or nausea. If swiy does use it then he should post about the experience here as there is almost no info on it. Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
There's a botanist swim knows who grows what is reputedly the hallucinogenic variety of coleus. He was vague on effects but seemed fairly unimpressed. Of course, the leaves of salvia divinorum are not that potent in their natural state. Anywho, they were of the variety seen on the erowid page.
![]() Swim would think that this would be the variety to begin investigation of this ethno with. Careful investigation of course. Considering how little is known about this plant, the erowid experience reports about it are fairly glowing. Swim remembers that, before it gained popularity and extracts became more widely available, the salvia page on there was probably more hit and miss in terms of definate effect. Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
Someone Bongo knew in high school had made a tea with this plant. It was listed in all the tacky and often dangerous "Legal Highs" type books. Right along with Hydrangea - cyanide.
The person stated he didn't feel anything at all, but it tasted awful. If it were good, I'd wager we would have heard about it by now. |

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
Hmmm... perhaps there is a bit more known about the plant than my cat believed. He's also heard that it may have been used by our friends the Mazatecs. If so then there may be a good deal of knowledge about it's safety and use available since several botanists and anthropologists have visited that region. But, as of yet, my cat has found nothing of any repute.
Not always a safe assumption Panthers007 but a good benchmark I suppose. |

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
Yea swim has had several "attempted" tries at coleus all ending with a very, very, mostl likely placebo relaxation. Swim belives if anything it is only midly active. And yes, the tea tastes like abslute shit.

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
My cat purchased several of these the other day in response to this post. He found that they made his vision unusually clear and deepened his perception of colors. They were also quite relaxing.
Rather than smoking them he took the fresh leaves and chewed about 8 of them for around an hour. They seemed to be mildly acidic and burned his mouth a little. The first time he tried them he swallowed the quid after chewing but regretted it later. They were a little rough on his stomach and served as a laxative. Overall he was impressed and will make an extract when he gets around to it. For now they serve as a very decorative addition to my plant room. |

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
Most people believe Coleus is BULL but SWIM disagrees FULLY! SWIM can say for SWIM when doing a new drug it goes like this.
1-begin to feel effects. 2-ask SWIMSELF if it placebo or real. 3-Try SWIM best to make the effects stop in order to prove whether or not it is placebo or effect. 4-talk about with others what they witnessed SWIM doing while on the drug. So SWIM has a method to see whether a drug is BS or real. Anyways this is how this went.... SWIM smoked 6 leaves off of SWIMS beautiful Coleus plant. SWIM quickly felt someone tell SWIM that SWIM needed to go meditate in the dark, quiet, next to then GF. Cannot remember anything of experience except for mild stoned feeling and clear thoughts. Or so I thought. When SWIM came to SWIM was happy. Went to sleep about an hour later. Next day SWIM was talking to SWIMS then GF, and SWIM made the statement to SWIM family that SWIM was meditating for 10 minutes. SWIM GF then informed SWIM was meditating for an hour. THIS stuff IS pychoactive somehow. |

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
SWIM is very interested in this as she has seen this type of plant before, but never imagined it would have psychoactive properties! It is quite lovely although SWIM for some reason always is wary of experimenting with things of such vivid color, lol.
She wonders how how SWIY Mickeled smoked it, in a cigarette perhaps? SWIM is also curious what some nice strong tea might do with the plant as well. |

Re: What exactly would smoking coleus leaves achieve?
BOZO the clown told SWIM he took 6 big leaves off of his plant, perhaps SWIM will post pics of what BOZO the clown does..... will show pics, then put the leaves in the microwave for under 10 seconds. BOZO the clown does not wish to alter the chemicals in the plant too much, but he also tells SWIM that its CRAZY to try and smoke the WET leaves! FRESH leaves right off the plant are the best!
So then BOZO the clown places the 6 SEMI dried out leaves into a pipe and smokes it as long as he can. Because they are not dry it means that it takes a long time to smoke the plant! Roughly ten minutes of constant smoking! basically stop when your body says hey your good now! BOZO the clown is in the process of trying a vaporizor, a bhong, etc etc etc. Chewing is ok, makes the room BOZO the clown is staying in do some pretty trippy things! Like morph and stuff! But the taste is horrid.
