Thinking about the future while high.

Swim has this very strong tendency that whenever he gets high on the mind bending substances (psychedelics, MDMA, nitrous and weed, cocaine not so much, and definitely not opiates or other downers) to think and talk non-stop about the future. Not his personal future, but like the far-future of humanity, as in what the world will be like 100, 500, 1000 or a million years from now. All he wants to do is discuss genetic engineering, robot economies, artificial intelligence, space exploration, mind-machine interfaces, quantum teleportation, encryption, cryogenics, uploading one's brain into a computer and other really far out there technological possibilities.

It's to the point where most of swims friends tell him to shut up and quit being so weird. It's almost like swim is like that one little kid whose just obsessed with dinosaurs or trucks, and does nothing but talk about them and play with them. It's just like the future of humanity is such a wide open subject with so many far-flung possibilities that it seems like the perfect topic when one's mind is chemically opened and one wants to be taken away from the humdrum issues of every day life.

Anyone else like this, even with other topics that you find yourself continually obsessing about while high?

SWIM almost always tinks of the future especially on psychadelics, though 50% of the time he does think about other things such as the obvious, as in what reality truly is!.. though he almost always gets drawn back to the thoughts about the future in some way, its difficult to explain how everything in his trip always links back up to what he perceives of the future, but it happens, and up untill now SWIM felt relativly the same as SWIY as one of his friends had once come close, as in "making up" a planet with all the races and factions while he was rolling,, which SWIM thought was a rather amuzing fiction and took part aswell. Needless to say all of SWIM's other friends thought they were weird because they werent obsessed with attempting to get laid with one of the girls present or getting even more fucked.
SWIM says its all down to where obsession of the individual lays, in creativity, things like this happen, in hedonism, they become shallow and irresponsable thoughts
SWIY ever watched Ghost In The Shell?? -its a really good film about human-machine interface and uploading ones brain onto the net, and how its difficult to distuingish what the 'soul' actually is.. just thought it seemed quite relavent to what SWIY had said they experience during an experience

SWIM typically just starts to wonder how long she'll be able to continue her usage of drugs before her family finds out and tosses her into rehab, or until her drug using friends tell her she has a problem. SWIM also thinks a lot about how much longer is she really going to be using drugs. And when and why will she stop?

Such saddening thoughts, aren't they?

SWIM likes cocaine a lot & has several people in her social circle who are fairly new to the drug and thus, talk A LOT. SWIM has thought of beating them to death, much like they beat her high to death with their constant ramblings of nothing meaningful.
SWIM just likes to be able to enjoy the high of whatever she's on in, in her own way and on her own terms.

SWIM sounds pretty selfish, but when SWIM is spending the kind of money SWIM spends on drugs, should should be able to enjoy her high how she wants.

Swim and his buddy had similiar conversations often times. Would spend all night speculating on social/economical/enviromental implications of future technologies. Its very easy to get lost in it all when high swim has told me.

Stephan Baxter and Isaac Asimov (who hasnt heard of him) are common in any discussion as well , look them up if you have never read anything by them.

not sure but are you guys familar with the technological (and by proxy social) singularity event theory?

It's this idea that the emergence of these as of yet elementary yet drastically high potential avenues of humans development are going to obey something akin to moores law ridiculously....but also that as we start to intermixed these disciplines (which is inevitable in the quest to push each particular fields above and beyond) then we start to actually blur the distinction of the fields. Statistically speaking (well sorta stats...go look up the essays ill find links in a moment) these knowledge bases cannot really be extrapolated past a point of no return.

This collosion and fusion of knowledge is REALLY going to mess with our ideas of what the future represents.

On the parallel...why wouldn't the spiritual world be any different?

SWIM was talking about this with his brother just yesterday. SWIM spends a fair bit of time thinking things like "all in moderation, drugs are just fantastic!" and "SWIM's glad SWIM took ______, it opened his mind to a fare few things."

SWIM hopes he looks back on drugs and thinks "Gee, that was fun! Glad I explored those avenues."

Anyway.

SWIM also does like to rant about the future. On MDMA, however, SWIM tends to look towards his and his friends personal futures. Robot-futures tend to be imagined on pot

My friend told me I could easily be a theological "philosopher" when we used to use weed a lot. I would come to a few epiphanies each time we smoked and just get high off thinking about it. Of course, naturally it would be forgotten the next day. Should have recorded that stuff I guess; of course, it probably only makes sense under the influence.

haha, swim can relate to the weed induced, later forgotten epiphanies! Hmmm maybe it was just that they seemed so profound at the time???

Swim thinks the world is coming to an end, but not in the biblical sense. The world is declining in every way possible. Society and culture are collapsing and rotting all 'round the world the way he sees it.

He thinks government will break down, people will become gun wielding cavemen, will get into territorial gangwars on a worldwide scale, and most of the world will die painfully. People are just animals at their roots, regardless of our crazy thinking abilities.

Swim is mucho pessimist

Besides that, Swim always looks for some sort of divine truth that explains the world while high. He has lots of roots in occultism and such, so thoughts of grandeur and hidden knowledge are never far way.

Somehow remembering some of the "break throughs" and "Ah ha" moments SWAI had in the past while High, he noticed that they make perfect sense while off influence, SWAI thinks he will start trying to record/log his Break through moments to better help him while Off influence, SWAI isn't saying he will get very meticulously detailed about logging his break through while he is High, that will ruin it, but just enough for him to recall his break throughs.
One of the break-throughs SWAI had was Life is actually so much more enjoyable with moderation, it is a practice everyone tries at one point but gives up too soon. SWAI realized that Moderation is when you are doing the right thing at the right time, without having too think too much about it, like a natural flow. It's still very hard for SWAI to do this, he knows it makes worry and guilt lesson a lot. SWAI realized there is a time for work, sex, high's, reading, literacy, socializing, time's of sadness, etc. SWAI realizes times of sadness aren't necessarily bad, they help you grow to either identify self-inflicted sadness or simply become stronger for the world's natural re-occuring inflictions of sadness.

That breakthrough is 100% true my friend, and has been taught for thousands of years by the few. Are you familiar with Taosim? Because even if you aren't, I think you'd understand it quite well given your outlook on life.

Monkey thinks about the future in psychedelics all the time, but he mainly thinks about HIS future, rather than about the general future of humanity. He thinks about what he wants to do and be, and often comes to quite different conclusions than he would whilst sober.

I don't characterize myself a Taoist, I look into many other spiritual groups for knowledge and cultivation, though Taoism is one of the groups I have learned most from.

This is odd that I stumbled on this thread, because a year ago I used to talk all the time about uploading a brain to a computer. With like a interchangable chip and everyone have a similiar interface like usb. etc. It was something i thought about alot. But gradually moved on to other shit.

Still wouldn't that be awesome, you need directions, here leme upload that information.
