Drugs in anarchist society.

For a good while I have considered myself a libertarian socialist (a sub-philosophy of anarchism). I oppose the existence of the state and government. I know a few other people here hold similar principles.

I do not want this to be a thread which degenerates into attacks on anarchism or other ways of life. Rather, I would like to hear perspectives from others on how an anarchist society would deal with psychoactive substances. Many argue that current restrictions on drugs (age limits, prohibition, prison sentences for possession, sale and manufacture) are absolutely necessary and that in a society where these rules do not exist, chaos would ensue. But is this true? Do we not already have complete chaos (ironically, the description used by many to describe anarchy) under regulated capitalism with our current drug laws?

I have long thought that until a person reaches a certain age, their parents (natural, adoptive or foster) should be capable of making decisions for them, then their extended family and friends, not the state. I also hold that drug addiction and overdose are issues to be dealt with by the person themselves (a little something I like to call responsibility), family, friends and health professionals - again, the state has no business in this. Therefore, in an anarchist society, I don't see a situation any worse than what we have now with regards to drugs.

What do others think? If you must say "it wouldn't work", please articulate why, but remember that I'm looking for opinions on how it could be made to work, not why it wouldn't.
