hydroponic heroin (making your own)?

SWIM recently came across a rather interesting book: http://www.erowid.org/library/books/...c_heroin.shtml

Bearing in mind that a smokable dose of opium requires something like 10 fully grown pods, how is it even possible to get a continuous supply of pure heroin year round from poppy pods grown in your attic/closet? Personally, this sounds way too good to be true for SWIM, especially considering that the cost for such an operation is said to be the same as "an ounce of fine marijuana." Thoughts, anyone?
