drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
I was just wondering what would be best way to get more intoxicated off the same amount of alchohol (10% beer), drinking slowly or quickly, I would think drinking quickly "chugging" would be a bad idea because the liquid would pass through your system before the alky gets absorbed but i also have no idea how fast alchohol will get processed so my therory could be wrong..
what would be better for getting more drunk off the same amount of alchohol, sipping it or chugging it? |

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
Chug.
According to available data, the male body absorbs 1 12oz 5% alcohol beer (ie can of budweiser) in 1 hr. Phaze has found in his experiments that he hates the taste of beer and its actually hard for him to get drunk off from beer because you have to consume so much of it quickly to get drunk. 10% alcohol is around a cheap wine, which phaze found chugging half of a fifth in one go provided a strong but not too strong buzz. But this is for his body. Be aware ofcourse that chugging might result in throwing up, phaze can chug vodka and not throw up, barcardi 151 and not throw up, but some alcohol even as low as 15% make him throw up when chugging. |

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
Although drinking quickly produces effects a lot sooner drinking slowly is probably a lot more pleasurable in the long run. A paced drinker can consume more over the course of a night as well. Chugging results in something of a crash and burn effect.

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
I find the best way is to drink slowly. you can enjoy the beer and the company and it doesn't go to your head to fast. I love Carling

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
it depends on what your goal is....if the point is to get drunk as fast as possible and get totally wasted, for me chugging is the best option....chugging more than a couple of beers can be hard and my stomach fills up quickly when chugging beer....if you want to enjoy the drink and still get wasted, drink a brew every 5-10 minutes

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
The most pleasant effects of alcohol seem to manifest more strongly while it is being absorbed and the less pleasant effects seem to manifest more strongly after the initial absorption stage. In SWIWs experience the more that is being absorbed at once results in stronger pleasant effects but on the other hand it becomes harder and then impossible to keep those effects going without running into the standard, uncomfortable, "too drunk" stage.

I just hate the too drunk stage that's the reason I prefer drinking slowly, that way I have control on how drunk I am.

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
This depends on the drink. If it is something like absinthe or cognac swim finds it best to drink slowly. With beer swim hears it is best to drink fast but swim really doesn't like beer alot.

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
In any x amount of alcohol, there is an x amount of ethanol.
The faster you consume this, the quicker it will enter your bloodstream, and the more effects it will evoke. Drinking the beer fast will get you drunk quicker, but you will run out of beer faster. Drinking the beer slow will get you drunk slower, but you will run out of beer slower. One thing for another...

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
SWIM usually does a little of both. SWIM drinks fast to begin with to get a good buzz going (card games usually do the trick), then SWIM paces himself and drinks slower to keep the buzz going (chills and talks sipping on something).
chugging the whole time always leads to vomiting, and drinking really slowly takes forever to get a proper buzz to begin with if SWIY has a decent tolerance. |

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
Overall, I prefer to drink at a moderate pace, but recently I've found a good way to save money is to chug a can (as quickly as you can manage) or two before you get to the pub. That cuts down the amount of pints I buy at the now rip-off prices we have to pay in the U.K.

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
Since the question doesn't take the quality of the experience into consideration, just the most efficient method of getting drunk...then the answer is to drink as quickly as possible.
The beverage in the original question is some form of Malt Liquor ("10% Beer" doesn't really apply to normal beer which is typically in the 4-6% range.) A 10% Malt Liquor will be absorbed faster than a 10% wine cooler because carbonation aids in absorption. Alcohol is absorbed primarily in the lower intestine (80% is absorbed in the lower intestine vs. 20% in the stomach). After which, the liver processes about 95% of the alcohol regardless of concentration and effects can be felt as quickly as 30 seconds after consumption, ramping up to full effects over the course of 20-30 minutes. |

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
It is indeed completely dependant on the alcohol in question. 10% beer. Don't chug it but dont sip it. Drink two or three mouthfuls at a time, settle for a few seconds, then repeat. After you go through like 3 beers you can slow down cus you'll be buzzed.

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
swim has found if that he paces himself to what ever the mood fits, he'll be much more social, and a more pleasurable drunk. swim has chugged hard liquor on a few occasions, and just get's grouchy, destructive, and just generally a miserable drunk. swim often finds himself not wanting to be drunk anymore since the bad spins often happen when swim doesn't pace himself

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
it depends...swim has tried century club (a shot of beer every minute for 100 minutes) and gotten quite intoxicated at about the 60 minute mark....and swim drinks over a 750 mL bottle of vodka a day.
If getting pleasantly buzzed is swiy's mission then swim would suggest chugging 2-3 high proof beers (wheat beers like hacker pshorr or Blue Moon) in a row and then have a jager bomb shot or something of the like. After that consumption, swim would nurse beers to maintain a nice buzz. This is soley swim's opinion and routine to tie on a nice, maintenance buzz. It works for her. |

Re: drink fast or slowly? what best for getting drunk?
CHUG!!!
This way you need less. Alcohol is a drug. Treat it like one. There's no crash and burn. It's nice to be really drunk at the start of the night and gradually sober up as the night wears on (Especially with caffeine). After 3 hours you can have 1 or 2 drinks to top up.Everyone else will be passing out and puking and stuff and you'll be like "let's party!" and they'll be like "but you drank so much, how do you do it" (coz people only notice what you drink at the start of the night). You'd be suprised. If you drink a fair amount the social effects will last for at least 6 hours You just feel less drunk coz your body is getting used to it. So in conclusion, to get the best value for money and to have the most fun, CHUGGING wins hands down. ![]() (and also if you want to avoid getting sick don't drink beer.Drink white wine or a CLEAR spirit...the general rule of thumb being the clearer the drink the less sickening it is,obviously added ingredients and colouring don't count.)
