As long as we're talking health issues, certain metals, such as brass, can subject a person to "fume fever" if heated to vaporization. Thus, it's probably a good idea to keep flame strength within certain sane limits when using metal screens.

Absolutely correct, smoking from a brass, copper, or aluminum pipe can cause metals/aluminum to accumulate in the lungs. Studies suggest aluminum foil can cause Alzheimer's. Phaze would never smoke from a brass pipe. Even his homemade pipes take safety into consideration more than the company who sold you a brass pipe to smoke out of. The ones in most head shops are steel or metal.
The metal screens and metal pipes from a high quality head shop are fairly safe to smoke from, they are not coated with anything. A safe screen should glow red when you hold a lighter to it and not smoke, keep in mind the lighter will smoke itself some from the flint.
If the screen glows red, and does not turn black, that means it is safe, it has not been coated and probably came from a reliable safe manufacture. Phaze is not taking into consideration the quality of product offered in your area, maybe its imported from china or a lower quality product, but safe metal screens do exist.
For the topic, Metomni is correct, it does not have to be marijuana resin. All resin is sticky.
