my advice for anyone going to the Dam is just to carry on down the main road to near the bottom and check out the mellow yellow coffeeshop. SUCH a good atmosphere, SUCH good prices, SUCH friendly service and they have some of the best shit i have ever had the pleasure to smoke. trust me it's like heaven. And they play the funkiest ass stoning music. GO THERE!!!! I live in england so im lucky enuff to be able to go to the dam as often as i want but alas my gf won't let me!!! so smoke one for me guys.

If it were ME I would reconsider who I date, for me a girls gotta understand who I am and not try to mold me into something, I would never let a girl say "you cant smoke , got to amsterdam or hang out with smoke buddies" cuz that would be the last time we saw each other, I mean those three things are who I am and what I do, not that my life revolves around pot but not a day goes by that I dont smoke or hang-out with smokebuddies( Ive never been to amsterdam)no offens man its just me and a thought of mine peace out and live without opreshion it will always lead to rebelion.

What's the name of the street. I'm heading to the Dam in July so I'll probably check it out. How do you get there from Central Station?

Mellow Yellow is on a street called Vijzelstraat, it is a pretty far
walk from the station, best to take a tram there (#24, 25, get off at
stop "Weteringircuit" pronounced "vetering-cirquee"), there is a ton of
major construction there, so the stop may move and the route of those
trams may change. Either way, Mellow Yellow is basically halfway up
Vijzelstraat, pretty close to the Heineken Brewery.



No disrespect intended, but in my opinion that shop is just okay, it is
not really that cozy. The stuff is good, the staff is nice-but there
are actually a lot of places that offer a little something more in
terms of a cozy atmosphere. Of course, it depends on what you're
looking for, but a few suggestions for places that are a little more
interesting:



Global Chillage (Kerkstraat)

Rokerij (Various locations, nicest ones on the Amstel, Singel and a new one in the Jordaan)

Abraxas (Jonge Roelensteeg: awesome hash milkshakes for sale here)

Dampkring (Handboogstraat)

Brandend Zand (Marnixstraat)

Anyway, I hope you have fun in Amsterdam. Just get one of those
Smoker's Guide maps when you arrive and you'll be able to find your way
to all the coffeeshops very easily, unless you get too stoned to read a
map.

I probably will get too stoned. In an environment like that for a limited time I'm likelt to abuse the situation. I'll be located pretty-much directly across the river from Central so my first stop will obviously be Central Coffeeshop. Where do you get those smoking guides btw?

They have them at many coffeeshops and almost all head shops-They are
like a green folded map, the Cannabis Dealers Association puts them
out, I think. There are actually a couple of them out, so you should
find one pretty easily.



good luck-watch your wallet and all that, there's tons of pickpockets
and bag thieves in Amsterdam, especially near the station and Red Light
District.

I won't worry about pickpockets. I floored a Roman pick-pocket before when I was only 13 on my Easter holidays.

What's the situation with these so-called "drugstores" I've heard of? I've been led to understand that these places sell marijuana and ready-to-consume mushrooms at lower prices but you can't actually smoke up in them. Is this true?

I haven't heard of that. There are smartshops, which sell mushrooms,
cacti and other ethnobotanicals. You don't really hang out and do your
drugs there, although some of them have lounge/chill type areas. Smart
shops never sell weed, to my knowledge. Maybe outside Amsterdam there
are some stores like that, in smaller towns or villages without their
own coffeeshop, and the prices would probably be lower outside the
city. I would be wary of anyone in Amsterdam who claims to be selling
grass at a "store" at lower prices. Unless they have given you
significant reason to trust them, been recommended by someone,
etcetera. There are so many coffeeshops where you can buy grass on the
cheap, it is silly to get involved with someone making crazy claims. I
bet that you are thinking of smartshops, they are just like normal
stores, really, but selling trippy stuff.

Thanks for the tip. I'll need to check out one of these smartshops to get some proper shrooms. All I wanna do on my first night there is buy 5g of good bud, munch a few shrooms and relax in my hotel room. The city will look so nice the following day.
