Your body has to age.The production of cells, biosynth of proteins and ATP diminishes in every passing second(after the mid 20-ies,that is).The rate of production is maximal when you are a baby, and it decreases greatly over time.We are not perpetum mobile`s.You may achievea certain kind of immortality, bit its energy costs would be huge;and eventually your existence isnt going to be feasible any more,be it from natures or any other point of view;and your plug is going to be pulled.when your body dies, your brain dies, your daffodil dies.period.

the placebo effect isnt very clear yet.Is it autosuggestion? Is it a mere coincidence? As for deadly diseases, mind certanly has no power over cancer, aids or radiation sickness there are limits to the powers of antibodies and such. But for the lesser diseases....?

if you know how to meditate, u should be able to instantly rid urself of a headache. i do it all the time. when u take a pain killer, it stops the neurotransmitters from sending signals to your pain receptors and your brain can do this itself. i gotta find that book and tel youse some of the amazing shit it reads... the placebo was a test, given to someone in pain, a sugar pill, pain went away... there was a better story about a group of cancerous patients who were of course going to die, but not for how long? so they divided up the group into two. one group went to chemotherapy and all that med crap, and the other group did nothing of the sort, they took some kind of meditating class. the results of who lived longer was very different and geuss who lived longer? yup. the buddha ones

In all seriousness, forget everything anyone tells you. I suggest you read the book "What to say when you talk to yourself" It is a self help book, but by the time you are half way done with the book you will understand how much your mind has control over things, actualy you can control everything, every ailment, everything (not viruses or diseases u get my drift) but anyway decide for yourself.

yea same concept... is the reason there really is no such thing as an "ugly" person. you are what u think u are. A person with confidence is beautiful. a person with a low self esteem... it is known that they have a low self esteem, i believe thats all jesus was. some guy who was so in touch with himself, that he understood how we are all the same, connected to eachother, and that is "god", the holy spirit, the cosmic energy that is in everything and everyone. it is just an age old belief that god actually has to be a "person" . how can there be "someone" determining whats gonna happen to us? we can punished by "him"? i dont think so. god is a term. i am still confused though, about spirits. are they conscious of their existence? do they exist? if are memories stay within our body, doesnt that take away our actual self? this is where i think reincarnatio comes in. i also think that, because it is the same "spirit" that flowthrough everything, animals and plants, if they had the minds of a human, would be able to do the same as us. we are just a more developed species with the same soul... riiite...

i used to practice a "mental state of warmth" and still do on occasion. i discovered at school, that when it was cold, if i stopped myself shivering and convinced myself it wasnt really that cold, i wouldnt feel it. there seemed to be some sort of limit on this though - it would only work above a certain temperature, if it was too cold it wouldnt happen. this could be because i hadnt had enough practice or control over my mind though.

well if its 50 degrees and -50 degrees, theres a fat chance yer minds gonna crank up the heat that much... its like how stress can cause you to be sick, anger can lead to a heart attack, etc. this isnt just some philosophy, its a proven fact. the others are philosophies though, like if u "know" you are beautiful, you will be, and vice versa... this i know is true from trying it. try it. were all pretty!

When you are stressed the body temperature in your extremedies gets cooler. Your hands and feet will get cool because blood is building in your larger muscles. It is part of the "flight or fight" mechanism. I had a supposed anxiety disorder when I started high school(I think I was just intimidated). I went to a shrink and he taught me some audogenics(sp?) but I just had to concentrate on making my hands and feet warmer, sort of treat the symptoms to get rid of the whole feeling of anxiousness.

I am as young as I feel.

Most of the time that an average person is pondering this monumental question (Do we actually age), he is young. This is jumping-the-gun a little bit. What difference does it make what I MAY feel like 40 years from now? (After all, I may get clobbered by a Bus long before that.)

Life is long. When I hear people say that life is short, I wonder what they are talking about. Each day is long (enough). Each morning, when I wake up, I have a brand-new day. This brings with it a list of things: What will I do today? Where will I go? Who will I see.

I think that the question remains the same: AM I young? Sometimes it may turn into: Am I young enough? When I got out of High School, I felt old (no more goofing around, learning a little here-and-there ... now I have to work for the rest of my life). You know, it's all in perspective.

When I was a kid: If I can greet the day with enthusiasm for life, I AM young.

Today: If I can greet the day with enthusiam for life, I AM young.

When I am 65 years old: If I can (just) greet today with some enthusiasm, I will be young.

I know a guy who is muchyounger than I am (or, more precisely, younger than I feel). He was 80-years-old when I met him. He has a child-like look of the world. When we are together, I am (pleasantly) surprised: He is smiling, eager and interested in things. He laughs at problems. I wish I could be as young as he is. Maybe, some day I will be.

Well, if I didnt have to work 40+ hours a week my life would seem a whole lot longer.Fortunately,I really like my job, but I dont 'LOVE' my job. I think one of the keys to feeling young as long as possible is spending all of your time doing what YOU want to do.

In our society, you need a good deal of money to really be 'free'. Free to move where you want, go where you want, buy what you want, etc. If you can make that kind of $ doing somethingyou love, you're golden.

If you're happy living in a tree and denouncing the society you live in, I guess that would work too.

Im way too material though, I like the comforts of the modern world.

</span>This reminds me of the time when I saw a documentary on
buddihst monks which involved the observation of some scientist. The
monks where to spend the night outside
of their temple in the mountains. They where to do this in blisstering cold weather with only their
garments and some type of covering.

The next morning every single monk turned out just fine. It
seemed as if they had used a technique to warm themselves which
involved the power of their minds. The scientist claimed that any
regular person would of froze to death under those conditions.

Another one I can think of off the top of my head -and which I'm
sure many here have seen- is the one where the Buddihst monk sits
indian style in front of some type of protest and then lights hisself
on fire. He of course died, but he didn't show any type of emotion at
all. He just sat there, indian style, burning to death. There was
no reaction or observance of pain.

I was like wtf, how can you do that! I'd be screaming like a lil' bitch if my whole being was on fire.

And yet another one is the placebo effect. Where a person will
heal theirself (or at least at a faster pace) simply by believing they
will get better. Learning about these events show that our minds are
more powerful than we may think.
