Angry Whoops!!! A Bit Too Much Heat When Drying San Pedro!

So grandma had a few feet of sliced up pach cacti chips laid outside drying in the sun on a cookie baking sheet (crap typing that word just made swim want a cookie... And a sheet!) But anyways nighttime comes and grandma brought her drying cacti inside and used her unlit oven as a place to store the cookie sheet untill the sun came back out.

3 hours later grandma is baked off her ass trying to juggle 3 rolling pins:

She puts the oven on to preheat 375ish? Grandma completley forget about her heat sensitive food in the oven while she grabed the flour and started making a batch of homemade hotpockets which took about
15-18mins Could anyone make a gusse as to if the cacti lost much potency? Should grandma just dry this stuff out and save it for an eventual large scale extract or would there still be enough left to make it worth eating?

Well im abuot to go do some LSD. See ya!

Re: Whoops!!! A Bit Too Much Heat When Drying San Pedro!

Boiling point for freebase is:180C(356F). Swim is guessing that swiy may have destroyed it

There was some talk about mescaline being a salt inside the cacti. So swiy MIGHT have saved if it was in a salt because it would just reach the melting point which is also around 180C for many of the salts.

The data is from the merck index.

Re: Whoops!!! A Bit Too Much Heat When Drying San Pedro!

swim did this two to 3 kg of san pedro, if it is as black as awims then it is useless. swim tried eating half of the remains and just felt really sick and pissed off that he spaced out and ruined it. it's loss in potency is not due to the mescaline boiling off as it is indeed present as a salt in the cacti, but it is due to the instability of the mescaline hcl molecule at high temperatures and it degrades with heat. next time swiy should get it as a powder and perform a solvent extraction, and swim should try and not get baked for at least a couple of hours.

No need to buy what you can grow yourself. seeds are cheep!

The cacti was nice and fresh and still in bigger chunks so its not like she burnt them or anything.
