2012.....The Mayan Prophecy

Anyone else heard about this? It's a very interesting subject. I'm not an expert on Mayan culture, but am definitely intrigued by this advanced ancient civilization. Basically, the Mayan calendar ends on the date December 21, 2012, A.D. Some people believe they prophesized the End of the World. Others believe a New Awakening will occur. The Mayans were stargazers and somehow calculated the exact date that the planets will be aligned with the Sun (which amazingly positions itself in the exact center of the Milky Way). The Mayans also believe that the exact center point of the Milky Way is the doorway to the Underworld. I was just interested to see everyone's opinion on this phenomenon.

Very interesting culture, I'm by no means familiar with even half of the information available about them but I do know that a lot of their artwork has images of flowers and mushrooms. A lot of evidence shows that the mushrooms are infact shrines created by their shaman to honor the fruit that gave them theirknowlege.

history in 2012, based on calculations derived from the I Ching.

However hard I try not to believe in this, I can't help being a little curious to see what happens on 21/12/2012. We'll soon know whether or not this prophesy is true, anyway, unlike other comparable theories.

Eastern philosophy is beautiful. My friend has a tatoo in chinese that says "the way" or "the dao". I need to do a little more investigation into the I Ching.

The Tao Te Ching</span> (The Way of
the Tao) attibuted to Lao Tse explains the phiolsophy of the Tao: "The
Tao which can be spoken is not the eternal Tao." The Chinese character
"dao" means a way or road. In China its on every street sign.

Another Mayan Mystery is a myth surrounding the 13 Crystal Skulls. Apparently the first Shamans (forgot how many) sculpted 13 skulls out of crystal. The skulls were separated and hidden throughout the world. Legend has it that when Man finds all 13 skulls and reunites them that the Meaning of Life and all the questions of Man will be revealed. Scholars deemed this as folklore until some of these crystal skulls started turning up in the modern day "real" world. Tests done on some of these skulls have intrigued the minds of the researching scientists (as well as the public). Tests conclude that the skulls were so intricately sculpted, that even modern-day technology, such as laser beams, wouldn't produce such detailed results, and shattering the crystal wouldmore likely occur than sculpting it.


So, how did theShamans of the MayanTribe, using ancient tools and technology,create these works of art without shattering them into millions ofpieces?

What about the end of the world though? Is it coming? I feel like there is a big change coming, something like an end or a new beginning. I can just feel it in the air, it is this exciting tension, like the moment before a first kiss. I think the enjoyment of the moment before is equal to the act.

I always enjoyed Tao philosophies.....Tao is everything, yet Nothing.

The Tao is essentially 'what everything is'. The way the universe is: being, non-being, consciousness, existence are all elements of the Tao. Why is two plus two four? Because that's the Tao; the way things are. The Way.


All the major religions have some name for this concept and many anthropomorphosize it as God or Krishna or Allah. Personally, I think it's an unnecessary concept.

i remember reading something a few months back about the mayan calendar ending in 2012, its very intriguing to say the least. just to clear something up - the sun will not be at the centre of the milky way in 2012. it would take something like 26,000 years travelling at the speed of light for us to reach the centre of the milky way.

Well looking at all the theories from the past and present it seems
that one out of a billion are right and even then they could be argued
so i put this in that catagory. yea they were amazing people but not so
sure how well i will trust my future to them

I was just curious, because I have heard of the 2012 thing before, but is the sun, planets, and center of the milky way supposed to align? because from your post it sounded like you said that the sun positioned itself in the center of the milky way, which it assuredly does NOT ever do. A line of all the planets, sun, and center of the milky way WOULD be possible, however, so I had to ask for clarification.

Yes, the Sun will be positioned in the exact center of the Milky Way. The planets will be aligned, however, not in a perfectly straight line.

I visited the center of the Milky Way. All I can say is it's not all that bad. Maybe the end of the world will be a good thing.

Well what they could have been doing is they knew really when the world
was gonna end and so they told us it would end much later so we would
get an unexpected death so no one would be able to freak out since no
one knew. but i have to admit that who ever or what ever was here
before us was very extraordinary indeed

it does sound like it would make sense, i mean you hear all these
things about the world ending soon with global warming and the polar
caps melting, yellowstone blowing, and other natural things that could
occour in the future. It could most definatly happen on that
date. But like that comedian paton ouswald(sp?) said, it would be
badass dieing in the fucking apocolyps, ultimate braging right.

I've also heard about the mayan prophecy. The weird thing is, according to the Bible code in the year 2012, were supposed to be hit by an asteroid. If you look into the bible code you will see it prophesized many events that have already occured (i.e. the holocaust, 9-11.) with much detail. It says in 2006 Los Angeles will be hit by a major earthquake. Since I live in LA, I'm planning to move away soon... just in case. If it does hit, I will be pretty assured that the world as we know it may just end as of 2012.


As a child I experienced dreams of the end of the world. I remember watching in the distance as a bright flash of light erupted and I could see the people around me melting seconds later. I physically felt the air being squeezed out of meas I was pressed to the ground. After that, I got up and started to walk around the ruins that I once called home. Everything was so real, when I awoke, I felt no fear. To this day I dont fear death, since that day, I have accepted the fact I will die and because of it, I have lived life like mostonly dream.
