these terms i've always assoiciated in the same way, but i guess you could say that a stoner is someone who likes to smoke pot and a pothead is someone who has to smoke pot all the time... Dictionary.com says: pothead n : someone who smokes marijuana habitually ston·er n.
i dont know about the stoner definition because i've always associated it to pot. not to alcohol or other drugs.. Muirner |

A stoner is someone who wishes to become enlightened by his cannabis use, and uses it more as a ritual experiance. A pothead is someone who simply smokes because of its intoxicating properties and would do anything to get high, most likely with others than alone. |

Use the "Search" feature. There has allready been one thread about this.
Basically though, a stoner is one who smokes on ocassion, and gets stoned during those events. A pothead is one who is constantly high, as being like their head is full of pot. Usually a pothead is more habitual while a stoner is more of a party smoker. Thats my opinion though, feel free to argue it all you want. |

I'm not been smoking a lot but people call me either way. For me it's all the same. I like the word stoner more though |

i hate the terms and they are mostly used in a bad way. I find people say thiswho are too scared to get high or have been told by the gov its wrong. I prefer to be called Enlightened.

I have heard people refer to being intoxicated by alcohol as stoned, not personally but on movies or internet etc. This would leave me to believe that being "stoned" is simply intoxicated/high in any way. Although personally I always associated stoner to marijuana only.
Wow, didn't realize this was such an old topic, my bad. |

My personal definitions happen to be pretty consistent - pothead being someone who smokes pot all the time, and a stoner who likes being stoned for fun. |

The term "stoned" was applied to being on either marijuana or heroin in 1960's California lingo. I suppose the name "stoner" could be applied to someone who does both even though 90% of time it would be applied towards a pot smoker.
SWIM smokes habitually, therefore I guess he's a pothead. It's a better word than stoner anyway IMO. |

Re: stoner VS pothead
A stoner and a pothead are one in the same. Not a bit of a difference, where I come from anyway.

Re: stoner VS pothead
For me a stoner is someone who smokes mostly indica strains and prefers to spend his time as inmobile as a stone. Though some broadly use that term to mean also drunk etc, most people connect it immediately to pot smoking.
A pothead is a person who smokes though he knows, or at least others know that the pot is getting into his head, he's getting dumb or it otherwise makes life harder. That's the tone of voice when someone chooses a petname that suggests that the joy potheads are getting out of pot is only the pot effecting the brain and nothing to be proud or joyful for. |

Re: stoner VS pothead
What about a high-on? or a burn-out? How exactally does each one differ from a stoner or a pot head? Talk amongst yourselves. High ons smoke mostly sativa and ocasionally indica while a burn out smokes only indica and wont touch sativa for the life of him.
OOOOH, just messin around. Have a good one guys
