Drug info - Drug dogs can smell lsd?

Recently searching through a chemical supply website, I found "fake" scents that SOME police use to train drug dogs with. They had a scent for LSD. I remember reading somewhere that there was 1 dog that could smell for LSD, but I was wondering if this was more widespread now or if it is even possible.

lsd has no smell , the only smell would be from the liquid its stored in i.e. alcohol

LSD has no smell and no taste therefore it's impossible for any animal to smell it. Police enforcement may claim that they have ways of detecting it but this is probably a scare ploy more than likely. Although LSD is difficult to synthesize, I'm surprised it isn't more prevalent considering the ease in which it can be smuggled. I guess the demand isn't there. Modern drug users like amphetamine-like highs and artificial confidence. There is no widespread demand for introspective self-discovery mind tools anymore. That being said, magic mushrooms were quite popular over here when they were legally available. There's probably a market out there for LSD but it's difficult to suss out. Then again, people attach magic mushrooms with happiness and glee. A lot of people still believe all the LSD myths even though both drugs are very similar in effects.

I am not disagreeing with you but why would a legit company put out fake product(although this happens all the time, but this a very big chemical supplier).

The product description is

Narcotic Scent LSD formulation powder


"Substitute for controlled substances in the training of narcotics detector dogs. Mimics the odor of LSD."

or is this product simply odorless ;-)?

Actually LSD25 does have a taste. It's bitter. To take it further would require Rover to roll over in the clover. It would be a HUGE dose. Probably find the dog climbing trees.

SWIM thinks at such a low amount on blotter, sugar cube, etc.. that the dog cannot be trained to sense it. Maybe if there was a extremley LARGE amount, then the dog might be able to be trained to sense it.

Exactly. Though I'm not even sure very large amounts can be smelled either, there's no chance a dog can detect the tiniest little drop of LSD on a blotter.

I think that the police will beleive almost anything. And I think there are a lot of companies marketing to them. I know that I had a friend who marketed martial arts to law enforcement. You would be suprised the gimmicks that they would beleive.

Maybe the chemical it self has no scent but sugar and blotter paper are not out of the question. Sure it would be an awful idea, but we are talking cops...

Also if a chemical has no scent a massive quantity of it would have no scent, yes?

SWIM would worry more about it in the mail becoming found from either x-ray, package broke, so they opened to find a contact information or something. Rather than a dog sniffing it out, SWIM does not exactly know how many scents a dog can remember, but surly it cannot be that many.

I agree with nature boy that this is most likely a police scare tactic. obviously this would not be the first time police or government tried to scare people about drugs and other thngs....
