Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
SWIm enjoys his opiates, but hates the nausea associated with them (heroin especially)
Not sure if there are any methods that SWIM can use to reduce nausea, but figured he'd ask. So... do any of you swimmers have any methods that reduce the number of trips to the toilet? Thanks. |

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
Has swiNahbus tried smoking a little cannabis to calm down? Swim hates throwing up on H, and has yet to smoke a lot and smoke some cannabis to calm the stomach. Also be careful, cannabis can intensify H.

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
Good balanced diet, high in protein, omega 3,6,9 fatty acids (olive oil and fish oil), vitamin/mineral supplements, add to that a particularly useful B vitamin complex. Drink plenty of water. Get plenty of sleep and exercise.

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
50-100mg of diphenhydramine (benadryl) 30 Minutes before the ingestion of the opiate should sort out SWIM.

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
There are many drugs that are good for nausea, they are known as anti-emetics. Wikipedia has a section on Anti-Emetic that lists dozens of them, many available over the counter, such as antihistamines (like diphenhydramine that Walkerx mentioned).
Wikipedia also mentions peppermint and ginger. |

Ginger ale works wonders to combat nausea as ginger is a natural anti-emetic.

I am with tweeker, ginger works great for nausea. You can purchase them at any chain pharmacy and they have many uses.

When feeling sick, lie down on your back. The sickness will pass, works everytime, and dosen't cost anything.
Easy. |

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
SWIM uses Metaclopramide for nausea(caused by other reasons) and it works GREAT but TBH SWIM has not been sick on opiates for over a decade now.... tolerance. SWIM regards this drug as the best anti emetic available.
SWIM cannot think of ANY reason why a doc would not give a script for this. Of course, Cyclizine can be fun mixed with opiates, so much so that the government make it hard to get here, but that's another discussion. |

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
All SWIM knows is that when is mixed with methadone amps(and IV'd), it reminds SWIM of Diacoanl... VERY nice. It's also quite nice with Morphine, SWIM has not tried it with any other opiate.

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
Opiate nausea is worse while ambulatory, so laying down until it passes is the best idea. Tobacco use can also worsen opiate nausea.

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
As walk said, benadryl can help. Also, swim suggests dramamine. Just be careful with both as they will increase the nod and likely increase respiratory depression.
Probably the best antinausea drug swim has used is ativan(lorazepam). Any benzo should help immensely. They are what is used for nausea associated with chemo. Once again, be extremely careful as the combination will cause a great deal of respiratory depression. Many people actually use benzos to increase the effects of opiates, people often find the combination to be better than either on their own. Be ready for a much stronger nod. Toodles |

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
Swim doesnt doesnt know about other swims but when swim gets nausious swin gets hot to almost a pricklly feeling i agree laying down is the best method for relief along with a cold tile floor to suppliment the overheated swim it normally subsides within minute and a half to 3 minutes and swim is fine just gotta get over the hump of almost overbearing euphoria that comes along with the nausia and heat

Re: Any ways to combat opiate nausea?
TUMS!!!! not only does it help drasticly with nausea, IT POTENATES! swim doesn't do any opiates without a pocket full of tums. 2-4 1/2hour before it kicks in, then any stomach trouble, pop another one. You wont even feel a comedown until you notice you're suddenly sober. this works great with the painkillers, but swim isn't sure about heroin, but it's got to help atleast a little.
