we are learning about alter states of conscious in psychology this semester.i used the the negative effects (considered fact becuasepsychologyis asciencethat utilizes the scienctific method), analyzed the jargon, and triedto explain cannabis' relativite (alcohol, nicotine, uppers, downers, opiates, pharms, etc.)safety to formulate a personal psychology of why cannabis can be used over a lifetime with minimal adverse affects.
I) Psychoactive Use<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urnchemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />
A) Cannabis
01) Adverse affects caused by repeated use
(a) “Impairs attention and coordination” – primarily affects a person while underthe influence
(b) “Slows reaction time” – virtually milliseconds
(c) “Can interfere with concentration, logical thinking, and ability to form new memories”
(1) The ambiguity of the wording (can interfere) diminishes this argument
i To interfere with logical thinking – means analyzing all possibilities of situations - government, religion, relationships, respect, kindness, personality
¨ Beeks’ Theory of Expansive Thinking: Psychedelics minimize the “shelter” that was created around us as naïve children because psychedelics are psychoactive substances that create enlightening spiritual and mystical experiences
¨ Beeks' Theory of PPN - Parallelism between Psychedelics and Nature: the highly most successful way to ensure a positive experience while tripping onPsychedelics is to trip outside
· Various psychedelics (mainly tryptamines) are found in nature - lsa, mescaline, dmt, 5-meo-dmt, 4-ho-, psilocybin, etc.
(d) “Fragmentation of thought” – only while under the influence; leading to funny situations; can be frustrating;
(1) ‘If it was that important, I’ll remember what I was talking about.’
(e) “Confusion in remembering recent occurrences”
(1) The remembrance of the occurrence isn’t not the important concept to enter into our memory
(2) The remembrance of the experience created by the occurrence is the important concept to enter into our memory
(f) “Negative impact on short-term memory”
(1) Submitting information to the short-term memory is a mechanical process that primarily relies on memorization to later recall the information
(2) Submitting information to the long-term memory is a process of engaging discussions, activities, etc. that relies on analyzing, understanding, and utilizing those methods of learning to gain a greater knowledge
(g) Negative health risks – no research verifies that solely smoking cannabis can lead to lung cancer; THC opens the throat and allows air to flow normally; conversely to that of nicotine which constricts the throat and minimizes air flow
02) Acute affects
(a) Relaxation, euphoria, altered space-time perception*, enhancement of visual*, auditory*, and olfactory senses*, disorientation, appetite stimulation
* - dictates classification as a psychedelic
