Storing - Unsure about the Growing and Harvesting thread.

Hi, (in my dream) I found these growing in my back garden http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...pium_poppy.jpg
Some are flowering and some have yet to. I thought since they're there, why not give them a try, but I'm unsure about how to turn the poppy into something I can just smoke. As I understand it, you pull the petals away and then slice the side of the head, then collect the substance which flows out of it, then put it away for a while but what then?
