Eat well, sleep lots, get a good strong B vitamin complex and a calcium/magnesium supplement on top of any multivits you get. Selenium and 5htp won't hurt either for keeping your mood on a level through what could be a dark period ahead.

co-incidence

Cortiscosteroids might alleviate the feeling, of having no energy, feeling like rusted (lack of the activity of the adrenal glands after supreessing it with amphetamiens), as well as the to this image related depression might be resolved.. beware of taking more than th 7.5mg prednisone equivalent (cushingoid threshold)!

Synacthen or Tetracosactide will stimulate your adrenal gland that might have suffered dystrophy to grow and produce its hormones again, other peptide drugs like growth hormone and IGF and analogues will help to prevent kidney dystrophy, but they won´t help with any hypothalmic/pituitary lasting suppression (swim hasn´t done any research on the suppressive action of amphetamines on the HPA axis, but he assumes that´s not that bad as a supression due to prolongued very high dosed corticosteroids or steroid use, per se)

BrugmansiaBrujo

5-HTP
Rhodiola Rosea
Ginko Biloba
Ginseng

Also if you are experiencing a bit of depression, but don't like the idea of turning to yet another drug to deal with that, take a look at using the herb sceletium torturosum. Sceletium powder taken in gelcaps orally makes a good all day mood brightener. Sceletium is also available in pharmaceutical form, in 50mg tablets.

If you are not yet into eating lots of foods with chilli peppers in them, that might be also something to try. The capsacin in chillies causes your brain to release endorphins, natural opiate-like chemical your body can make; endorphins make you feel good. Excercise also
releases endorphins.

Number 1: Try to work out why SWIY uses

Number 2: Cut off all SWIY's conections (This is probably the hardest one)

Number 3: Indentify triggers in your life, this could be anything personal to you. It could be something as silly as a phonebox SWIY uses to ring his dealer that gives you the urge to use. Write these down and avoid.

Number 4: Identify high risk situations in which you would normally use. Write these down. Avoid them. These could be places your friends/aquaintances houses/flats for example.

Ohboy

Eat lots of whole foods...meat, eggs, dairy, even bananas. These have tyrosine, which the body converts to dopamine.

Exercise - Dopamine is used in movement.

cosmicruler

taking L-Tyrosine and 5-HTP a couple hours before swiy wants to sleep...try eating healthy and exercising and drinking alot of water....

sqyttles

Getting some l-deprenyl from a doctor or an India pharm to take for the couple days after using meth. It normalizes dopamine and noradrenaline production. Plus, it is a neuroprotectant; some people take it before Ecstasy to reduce neurotoxicity.

~lostgurl~

Melatonin to normalize sleep patterns: Melatonin, it is a natural sleep aid that helps adjust your circadian rhythm so that you sleep at night and wake during the day. Often with heavy methamphetmine use a person will stay up all night long which disturbs the circadian rhythm in a way that is similar to both jet lag and changing time zones. It does not make you feel drugged like prescription sleeping pill but eases you back into a normal sleep pattern. It is also non-addictive so is a great alternative for a recovering addict.

The biggest issue for my girl has been switching her mind set from instant gratification to long term satisfaction. It's so hard to do things because they will make your life better in the long term when you are used to doing things that make you feel great instantly. Having people in your life that really care and are really proud of the changes you have made really helps.

What is also important is not beating yourself up if you slip and use again. It is a lapse not a relapse. So many people slip up and use then because of the guilt they think they are a fuck up so they keep using. Just because you lapse doesn't mean you have to relapse. Refocus and get back on track. Lapses could happen for the rest of your life but as long as you see them for what they are, a normal part of addiction and a normal part of recovery, then you can stay on track and not let it affect your long term goals.

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

Swim also likes this thread. Yes she agrees breaking with old using buddies can be tough and making sober buddies. Swim is working on that one as she has to find things she has in common with them since she was used to friendships based on drug use.

Another issue is finding fun things to do that do not involve drugs. She has found that even going out dancing, alcohol is usually served and that leads to cravings in her case for the old doc.

Counseling is a good one, usually there are underlying reasons that addicts have to deal with to be whole again and not go back to negative patterns.

Swim agrees relapses are to be learned from and just don't stay in the relapse. They are very common with meth addicts she knows. One just has to readjust and discover what was the trigger that caused the relapse so they can avoid it.

Re: Renegades Chemical Cocktail Cure for methamphetamine addicts

Anyone who is trying to stabilize a significant biochemical disruption (such as, say, amps addiction) would be well advised to supplement with some (or a lot of) neurotransmitter precursors. Someone mentioned L-Dopa, but I'd advise against it, as there is a very long list of possible side-effects due to its decarboxylation in peripheral tissues. When it is used clinically, it is co-administered with an enzyme inhibitor to prevent this, which is also unfortunately rather unselective.. too complicated to be worth it, methinks.

I'd add 5-HTP, l-tyrosine (precursor to dopamine and other catecholamines) and l-phenylethylamine (the brain's 'endogenous amphetamine) to this combo, as well as COQ10, which both combats oxidative stress and indirectly raises dopamine levels. Vitamin B6 wouldn't be a bad idea as well, as it is a cofactor in the biosynthesis of dopamine from endogenous l-dopa (which is made from l-tyrosine, which you've also increased... get the picture?).

I'm not sure it would be compatible with this 'recipe' (in fact, I'm pretty sure it would very ill-advised), but an approach to treatment using primarily precursors and an MAOI inhibitor (full inhibition might be preferable, but one could also look into an MAO-B inhibitor such as l-deprenyl) is an interesting possibility as well and might involve fewer side-effects than that mega-stack. Modafinil might combine safely with this combo as well.

A good nootropics regimen would likely be a good idea as well.

It makes good political sense as to why the problem of treating methamphetamine addiction hasn't gotten a greater response from the medical community. Meth addiction is fairly new (at present scale) and primarily afflicts the often already poor of rural areas, whose access to medical care may already be spotty...

It's all about money.

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

l-deprenyl hasn't been studied in pregnant women. My bet would be that most of the amino acids and vitamins would be safe, but I would have to do research on them separately to have any sort of certainty. My suspicion is that most doctors wouldn't be able to say off of the top of their head either, though it wouldn't hurt to ask your MD.

B6 supplementation is often recommended to pregnant women, so that wouldn't likely be a problem. C,D,E and K are often recommended as well.

Unfortunately, AFAIK anyway, there's not much info out there on the safety of venlafaxine or bupropion, both of which seem to show some promise for the treatment of meth. addiction. SSRIs are the only class which seems to be OK across the board, and they've been used as well.

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

AFAIK Vitamin A is the only vitamin that can be considered unsafe at normal to high doses during pregnancy. Sauna's are out as they can induce fever temperatures in the baby. Not enough research has been done on melatonin and even though it is a natural hormone, taking it as a supplement is giving the body much more than it would create on its own so it is recommended to avoid during pregnancy. Steroids would be unsafe, 2C's should be avoided as research is not available to show the effects of 2Cs. If one is taking anti-depressants at the time of conception then speak to your Dr who will be able to risk assess the benefits and dangers for you personally, but starting anti-depressants after getting pregnant is not recommended as there is a small chance it could hurt the baby.

Just a word of caution. Combining an MAO B inhibitor like Deprenyl and taking Phenylethylamine might be risky for someone trying to kick amps. Shutting down MAO B and flooding the body with PEA has, in SWIMS experience, offered an experience and high not unlike amps. On top of that, the primary effects only last 20-40, and with repeated or frequent use lead to pretty nasty and uncomfortable comedown, a pretty good recipe for developing a habit. I think the potential for someone to trade one unhealthy habit for another is worth bringing up. SWIM would steer clear of that combo...

SwiHS used l-Methamphetamine, his body 'accepted' it as dextro / racemace one, the effect is much different but no pain physically. Addiction remained is psychologically, and he believes starting from this phase will be much easier for everyone.

Still being a controversy about it, event to metcathinone either Pseudoephedrine that are absolutely not an amphetamine one, can't speak about it.
For safety issue, check the law in swib's country, use legal one, if accidentally get a drug test, then swiB will have a strong reason. Surely a doctor prescription is the best choice.

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

Rehab is for Quitters: Fighting addiction to illegal drugs with legal drugs.

My cat, Whiskers, was a long time poly-drug user whose main problem was a 4 year daily meth habit. As it happens, whiskers decided that this was not a way to live and that a drastic change was needed. So decided to quit - the hardest thing to do ever, ever... This is how Whiskers succeeded.

Step1.
Whiskers moved to a place where she could no longer get meth - she was lucky that she had such a place to go, but hopefully what follows doesn’t depend on necessarily doing this.

Now being both a doctor and a scientist, Whiskers was very sceptical about doctors and about "rehab" in general. Being a cynic and an atheist, Whiskers could not bear the thought of NA or twelve step, both for their statistically low success rates and their general moral and scientific dubiousness. Some other solution had to be found.

Step 2.
Whiskers went to many physiatrists to try getting help, and unsurprisingly, most of them had no idea what they were doing. Many harped on about 'psychological' addiction. Whiskers, having been a student of neuroscience, knew that psychology is just a product of the brain and it was Whiskers brain that needed treating.
And how do you tweak neurons? Well at the moment the most direct way to do so is with things called drugs.

Step 3.
Whiskers finally found a ‘good’ psychiatrist, one that respected whiskers patient autonomy and was willing to experiment according to Whiskers’ needs.

Step 4:
The Whiskers’ miracle anti-meth addiction cocktail of legal drugs: This list was not discovered easily but through much pain and trial and error and many fights with reluctant doctors. This cocktail has sustained Whiskers (previously a long time daily user of meth) in totally abstaining for over 6 months now, with no desire to go back to using.
So without further delay :
"Whiskers Medicinal Magic Bullet(s) for meth" - legal drugs to negate the crystal.

Recipe:
First: antidepressant - fluoxetine 20mg BD aka Prozak.
Second: awaking the mind - modifinal (Provigal) 200mg OD in the morning.
Third: dopamine booster - methylphenidate (Ritalin) 30mg TDS*
*Essential Note re ritalin:
this cocktail won’t work if you do not take the ritalin as follows:
i) You need to specifically get the Ritalin 30mg LA capsules.
ii) You cannot take 3 of these a day in the usual fashion and still feel good – you will be agitated and get diarrhoea and no sleep.
iii) Thus u must not take the tablets as directed i.e orally.
You need to open each tablet before you take it. Pour out the little balls and crush them.
Spread them out on a hard flat surface, then place a note of cash over the balls and hold it down, run a credit card over the note to crush the balls. Keep running the card until you the crackling stops.
Collect the white powder.
Divide into 4 lines and snort it.
This is why u need Ritalin 30mg LA as the filler they use doesn’t mess with your nose too much.
iv) Whiskers finds doing this 3 times a day is best.

Fourth:
Clonezapam 0.5mg TDS and 1mg at night.
This ingredient is essential; otherwise the Ritalin will just make you feel crap. And 0.5 mg is a low dose and all you need – don’t become a benzo junkie. Oh and make sure it is clonazepam and not valium or xanax – trust me, clonazepam is what you need.
In conclusion:
This cocktail will quell your desire for meth and will allow you to maintain the best parts of meth on a socially acceptable basis. The hardest part of this all is getting a doctor to agree to this unconventional cocktail – tell them that you had a friend, Whiskers, who was in the same position as you and that this worked for him.

I hope it works for you!

Post Quality Evaluations:
Don't cross-post (post the same thing in more than one thread). This dilutes the information & makes it harder to find what you're looking for in the future.
this combo sounds like a recipe for disaster. Snorting Ritalin to 'cure' amphetamine addiction?

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

This may work if you are wanting to switch from an illegal addiction to a legal one, but it won't take you away from addiction, quite the opposite, clonazepam can be quite a long and painful withdrawal. In saying that, a cheap, legal, functional addiction would be preferred by many. From personal experience though I'd say if you are still living in addiction, even if controlled, it is only a matter of time before it becomes unmanageable again. Good luck to you, hopefully this is giving you the life you are after.

For me, the only thing that healed my addiction was having something more to live for. This should really be as simple as wanting the best for you, but like most addicts, I didn't think I was worth that much. Finding out I was pregnant almost 3 years ago was all I needed and I haven't had a craving since. My little angel is the best thing that ever happened to me, because I might not be worth it, but she deserves every chance of happiness in life and I plan to give it to her as best I can, and I know that means no more meth EVER. In doing that I have also begun to love myself again and am slowly rebuilding a life that reflects that. Every day is a blessing, and the more I put into life, the more I get out of it. I wish everyone had something more to live for, something more important and more powerful than addiction, unfortunately, most addicts don't have that.

Sending my thoughts and prayers out there to all of you still struggling xo

I have read your second last paragraph about 50 times Lostgurl and it's never failed to move me. My own 3 angels are the best thing that ever happened to me. Whenever the going gets tough for me, I think of them and suddenly its a bit less tough.

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

swim has been using meth for about 3 weeks, this is not swims first time he has became a consistent user, the last time was about a year ago. but recently he has been confused on wether or not his mind is seeing in reality or not, at the moment its either this drug is a really dark substance, my mind has been altered by some horrible people or it has either just started to affect me by strange hallucinations, lately i have been thinking their is whispering outside his window, distinct voices of my friends, but knowing them they could be sick enough to mess with someones head on purpose, there are many theories of whats going on but i just want to know why this is happening to him when he has not stayed up pass 3 days and usually eats at least 2 meals a day. another thing is his paranoia is kicking in also, mainly because he keeps thinking his friends are setting him up as a dealer when they just got him started recently within the last 3 weeks, from what i understand his buddy got arrested for a pipe and released the very same day, that is very odd to find in orange county, swim is scared to talk to anyone about this problem because they seem to sound like they already know whats going on, it feels as if his life is like the truman show.

tantheory added 3 Minutes and 11 Seconds later...

also swim has switched over his heroin addiction of 4 years to this 3 weeks of meth, he went through a full withdrawal in jail for 3 months and has been using heroin for about 5 after that. would this have something to do with his problem?

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

I've been lurking about on here for about a week and finally feel well enough to chime in a bit. Not sure that mynd's cocktail would work for AFOAF, her propensity to over induldge if it feels good would eventually run the cocktail train straight to hell no looking back. Its day 7 for AFOAF coming off loads of norco's and 120mg plus of adderall a day for about 4 years, all legit scripts, 120 of each a month, wtf was that doctor thinking, what was AFOAF thinking since this isn't her first rodeo in this arena! Detoxed off of heroin/demerol in jail 30 years, treatment 20 years ago, long term sobriety, not a drop of alcohol in 10 years! The kicker is she is a drug and alcohol therapist!
She is trying not to beat herself up too much but is finding the anxiety, leg cramps and insomnia relentless. She has some Ritlin but is trying not to take but 1 20mg per day, seems to ease the anxiety a bit. She has 5htp, helps somewhat. She had called Dr. Feelgood for something for the anxiety and he gave her Celexa, WTF! She also told him NO MORE scripts, cutting off her access to anymore! She knows how to get clean , stay clean just needs some suggestions on getting over the hump to where its actually a pleasant thought to get out of bed and join the living again.
Thanks to all who post here, just reading them has helped me make it through this past week......

Re: Tools for recovering from (meth)amphetamine addiction

Good for you, coming this far!!

I have to tell ya though, by using the search engine here, you would have found :

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27370

Also, LostGurl posted really good links at the start of this sticky, so maybe check those out.

I truly feel for you, I know how difficult it is, the feeling like shit makes anything difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish.

The good news, and you already know, it DOES end! You will start feeling better, and the more vitamins and nutrients you can add to your daily diet, the better.

I don't know how much my prescribed methylphenidate has to do with it, but since quitting methamphetamine, I have noticed a rapid return of even better dopamine levels. After all I had heard and read, I feared my receptors were irreparably damaged. But I feel happier than even when still on the meth, so maybe this can happen for you, too.

Never give up.

It will surely go away. But first you will pay the price for what you have done.
Sleep for a week first and try to eat well. Ignore the madness. It will go away.
