Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
If LSD were to be made legal, I doubt it would be sold 'over the counter' like weed in Amsterdam. (is it still legal there?).
It would only be prescribed by doctors. Weed, you get high and come down after an hour or two. Acid's much more powerful. And so people would still be buying through dealers and it wouldn't make a difference if it was legal or not. But SWIM would go to the side of LSD more so than alcohol, because people are literally stupid when they're smashed on alcohol and have no productive thought or recollection of when they were drunk. With LSD, you can have incredible insights and imaginative thoughts that you never thought possible AND you'll remember most of it the next day. |

Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
If LSD was to be legalised ever, SWIM would only like to see it being sold to people who can present a clean bill of mental health, signed by his/her psychiatrist or something of the sort. Even if someone doesn't openly display a mental illness, some people are more, some people less inclined to develop them. LSD can help cause schizophrenia or other issues if used irresponsibly and if the user has a family history of mental illnesses (which he might not know of etc).
The dangers of legal LSD would definitely be there unless it were under strict regulation. SWIM agrees with all of SWIAcid_Flux's arguments though, when someone comes to him and talks about how much he vomited and fell down the previous night and shows how much cuts and wounds he has (which he couldn't remember getting), it makes him feel sorry and disappointed both in alcohol and in the person. |

Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
Sure, there are some people who shouldn't go near acid. But I still think there's a much larger mass of population who shouldn't go near alcohol. And for those who "should", the physical harm is still there. It's kind of scary thought, because LSD is such a powerfull drug. But it's worth noting that ancient cultures have been able to integrate psychedelics to their lifestyle. They weren't used recreationally to my understanding, tho. It seems like a concept that has emerged out of the ban. Maybe the problems with large scale usage in todays world should be blamed on society rather than to a sacrament. Context is everything.

Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
LSD will stop you when you've had enough by not delivering the desired effect. Booze will not. LSD will not make you physically ill if you try to stop taking it. SWIM has seen DT's from Alcohol not a pretty site. SWIM has never encountered someone using LSD that needed a 12 step program to quit. SWIM knows there may have been a rare case out there but she has never felt the urge to fight on LSD. Booze has never given her any kind of insite or world shattering awakening like LSD. Once SWIM found LSD she pretty much felt booze was a waste of time and money. LSD has help people quit drinking but SWIM doubts booze has ever helped anyone quit taking LSD.

Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
A single dose of the hallucinogenic drug LSD is an effective treatment for alcoholism.
In the 1960's, In one study, two-thirds of the alcoholics stopped drinking for at least 18 months after receiving one dose of LSD, compared to 25 per cent who stopped after group therapy and 12 per cent after individual therapy. Even interviewing the patients 40 years after their experience, they were surprised at how loyal they were to the doctors who treated them, and how powerful they said the experience was for them - some even felt the experience saved their lives. Now, why is LSD safer then alcohol, well maybe because LSD somehow finds a way to show how not healthy you are. The LSD gave these people experiences that psychologically took them outside of themselves and allowed them to see their own unhealthy behavior, your in not out. |

Re: Why LSD is safer than Alcohol
And here's another paper on LSD treatment for alcoholism (provides an historical viewpoint)... http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/loc...id=117&id=1172
Even if I do say so myself, our archive here is a wonderful thing! |
