going to the dentist

Greetings,

I have been opiates (percocet) for not too long. usually once or twice a week for a couple of months. now my problem is this, i am use to taking these 5mg tabs and can usually do about 8-10 at a time.

I need to have some wisdom teeth pulled but I fear the meds won't be able to cut it. I don't want to let my dentist know i have been indulging but I don't want any pain.

what should I do? I fear he will give me something weaker than 5mg percs
will my habit disappear once I have real pain to dull? will they cut it?

any suggestions?

thanks a bunch

I tihnk once that needle gets stuck in your mouth you will be thinking about more than should I tell the dentist about the few percs that I've been doing.

Re: going to the dentist

the needle doesn't hurt, they spray with a numbing agent and then use the needle.

I'm talking about when I go home and have pain in my face. will the pain cause my tolerance to go down?

Re: going to the dentist

I wouldn't be too concerned about it. IMO the pain med's that are perscribed are pretty unnecessary for wisdom teeth operations and you could get by just fine with something OTC.

Re: going to the dentist

SWIM's getting a wisdom tooth removed shortly and has discussed medication with his dentist. Apparently it's not as rough as one would suspect. You'll be numbed up with Novocaine during the procedure and afterwards basic painkillers will suffice.

Re: going to the dentist

swiyou'll be fine..true pain will not decrease ur tolerance. taking less of the med will tho. careful tho, swim was told once (after millionth sk8board injury) that when real pain comes and swim has been taking opiates and stops, the body does a pretty shitty job at fighting the pain. sounds logical

hopefully this'll help

Re: going to the dentist

swim was addicted to heroin and got one of his wisdom teeth pulled and was only supplied vicodin (baby asprin for an established addict), but swim felt hardly any pain after the procedure, so he just ate 5 vicodins and sold the rest for junk.

It really isn't that bad.. Simple pain killers such as ibuprofen and APAP will definitely do the job. The pain is pretty much gone by the time that the novocaine wears off.

Re: going to the dentist

SWIM had to have her jaw bone sawed through to extract one of her wisdom teeth, the pain after the local wore off was terrible and she looked like a hamster for over a week. Luckily SWIM had some good opiate painkillers and they only managed to take the edge off it, SWIM never went back and still has her other wisdom teeth, hardly surprising really
