Peru - What happens when police seize a large quantity of coke?

I live in Peru and it is quite common to see on the news that when police find a large quantity of coke, sometimes a couple hundred kilos, they burn it, actually showing them burning some huge piles of white powder, however I highly doubt that that is what really happens, considering the huge amount of money that such a big quantity represents, so does anyone have any idea on what really happens? Do they really burn the drugs?

I've heard they sell it to other dealers before the bust or while getting info. Goes right back on the streets. They keep the profit.

I've also heard they never report the full amount seized and use the unreported portion for other projects.

Washing-soda looks like cocaine. What did they incinerate? 100 kgs. of cocaine worth $100,000*? Or 100kgs. of washing-soda? Geeze...decisions, decisions...

* - Wholesale, maybe. Just a guess.
