OK i'm going to start by saying i've read a lot of threads here and on other forums. YES I found SOME of my "answers" but it's hard because it's so darned varied. One person says this, another says that, so you know how it goes. Basically, I'm trying to say that this isn't a repeat (or I hope not) - if it IS please excuse me because I did try the search forums with various queries.
Anywhoo.... A few days ago I stumbled across a yard sale. On a table in the back was a book, written by "Jack Straw" (from witchitaw, i think, anyways, I digress,) - it was more of a personal journal entry. now, I personally would never do anything illegal, but after reading this book by this stranger "Jack Straw" I had a few questions. Jack Straw claims to have gotten good pods. He says they are "big" - about a cross between a golf ball and a tennis ball. Furthermore, the var. is "Gigantium" and SUPPOSEDLY they were the "coveted" "Arizonia" strain, (not the STRAIN, but rather where it was grown- supposedly organicly under opt. conditions, but anyways to the meat,) : 1. YES or NO: can PODS be eaten? Jack has tried with varying success (depending on batch) - there's SO MUCH contradictory information, maybe someone can straighten him out. 2. Is EATING better than TEA? Just eatin' them raw? 3. Headache after eating (sometimes) - why? 4. Do the spots and speckles and colors on the pods have ANYTHING to do with potency? 5. Jack knows the SEEDS contain limiting alkaloids, but if they were eaten- in mass- straight from the pods' heads (we're talking 3 or 4 biggies) would it make a difference? 6. Where is the most of the morphine at? In those "spiney" things INSIDE the pods? Certainly not the seeds... if not the brown spiney things, then IN THE WALLS of the outer latex? 7. Bitterness- a GOOD thing? We're talking very bitter. Finally, 8. length of time after ingestion raw to feel peak effects? Semi-empty stomache I know these are a lot of questions I also know some of them have already KIND OF been answered elsewhere, but the reports really are conflicting. I SWEAR I tried searching- the first search terms were "eating pods" - I found very little information I want to verify Jack Straw's claims- so ANY and ALL help to my "newb" questions - well, it's VERY MUCH appreciated. I don't post a lot, and I'm not saying I EXPECT help, but I wouldn't post unless I really needed answers. My curiosity regarding Jack Straw's adventures (strictly legal- just reading his accounts) - well, my curiosity is really getting the best of me. Thank you in advance for EVERYTHING. You guys are great. favorite lurker, -=gf ps- thanks to all / any who help w/ reply

Re: Papaver S. pods- help!
It's not an exact science, so Jack might have to figure out the answers that work best for him.
1. Yes. Many grind up the pods and put them in yogurt. SWIM has been known to pull apart the pods and put them on top of spoonfuls of ramen soup. 2. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. It can be easier for some to just swig a cup of tea, and others can handle eating them. Tea may leave behind some goodies, but neither one are perfect. 3. Maybe because jack is eating all that plant material. It could also be that jack was taking drugs, that happens to some people when they do that. 4. No idea, doubt it though. 5. Seeds contain NO alkaloids inside them. None. The outside of the seeds has a little fun stuff on it though. How much on the outside of seeds varies too much for a proper estimate. Logic says no, not really, not in comparison to 4 giant pods worth. Unless it's all one can get, seeds are for planting. Furthermore, eating isn't going to get anything more than a PST will. Theoretically one could do a PST and still plant/eat/cook with the little buggers. 6.The walls of the pod are scored for the latex so that's the most likely candidate. If SWIY are trying to "eat around" any part of the pods, SWIY will probably be missing out. The whole pod is used for extraction, not just part of it. 7. Jack is eating a damn plant, it's going to be bitter. Too many variables, but most SWIMs describe the taste of PT to be bitter. "Hella bitter" if one pleases. More or less isn't really a good barometer for how strong it is. 8. 15 minutes to an hour. Jack should be very careful about this. Assume an hour and a half. Jack can take more, but once an amount has been administered, there is no "less" button. Hope that has helped. |

Re: Papaver S. pods- help!
Helped IMMENSELY - thank you! I'm sure Jack Straw thanks you, too- for considering his writings.
I found ONE LAST THING in the back of this book that I missed. Let me quote it for you: "So, after taking the pods from ((SUCHANDSUCH)VENDOR #"x"), and grinding them up and eating them whole, the effects were noticed. I found myself curious as to the morphine content, and if there was any cheap home-made scientific way of judging the content of the alkaloids. However, that wasn't my primary interest. In FACT, my primary interest involved BIOAVAILABILITY- I realized it was low for poppy pods, but I've HEARD terms like "first pass" - I WONDERED TO MYSELF- WHAT IS A FIRST PASS? AND IS THERE A "SECOND PASS"? DOES THIS REFER TO HUMAN DIGESTION? And would taking OVER-THE-COUNTER natural ENZYMES help to potentate the effects?" Yes, Jack Straw was curious. I guess after reading all this, I'm a little curious, too- what IS a first pass, exactly? And if Jack WERE to consume enzymes and perhaps even vitamins (aren't certain vitamins interactive with other things? Like caffeine uses vitamin b-12? am I making any sense? BTW- thanks for the insight. I JUST finished reading his accounts about popping a few dry bulbs back, (after powdering them, so he states,) and I have to say- I really am enjoying this book. I mean, it's QUITE something. Knowledge never ceases to amaze me.

Re: Papaver S. pods- help!
Sounds like a book SwiPF would love to read, Swipf has used TUMS antacid to potentate opiates before.... perhaps it applies...Swipf seems to remember drinking grapefruit juice 40 min before ingestion of opiates also and got GOOD effects off Crappy darvocete that way. ((maybe its all in swipfs head, but he thinks he read it somewhere on here, "potentiating opiates" or something of the like))

Re: Papaver S. pods- help!
- pedantry alert -
When calling a plant by its binomial, the genus is referred to by its initial (and only if it is obvious which genus is being referred to), and the name of the species is given in full. This is sort of a pet peeve of mine on forums such as this. Thus, not Papaver S, but rather P. somniferum is the correct manner in which to refer to this plant. Best of luck, carry on... [/pedantry] |
