getting a prescription

Sorry if this has been covered (couldnt find it in search), and sorry if talking about this isn't allowed.

Swim was at the psychiatrist a week ago. He wanted to get some kind of stimulant for school to help with studying (swim said he thought he had ADD). He also thinks it might help with his social anxiety. Well when he went there he explained his background to the doc, and afterwards the doctor said "i'm going to say three words, then ask you a few questions, i want you to try and remember the three words". swim wasnt really sure how to handle the situation. the questions were pretty basic and the words were pretty easy to remember (like helicoptor or something). swim passed without any problems, which swim's guessing caused him to not get the prescription.

the doctor told swim that he would have to see a neuro psychiatrist or someone who could give a test for ADD. Problem is, there isnt anyone in swims insurance network that can do the test. swim was wondering what some of the "dos and don'ts" are. what would be a red flag to the doctor? should swim not mention anything about depression, anxiety or being on small doses of lexapro and seroquel?

definetlly do not tell them swiy is taking the lexapro. With the seroquel swim is not sure but because of drug interactions they will not give you adderall or anything with the lexapro. What swiy has to tell them is that swiy always forget things when swiy puts them down. Tell them swiy spends money very impulsively when swiy goes shopping. that swiy always get's tickets for speeding. swiy doesnt even realze that swiy is speeding but swiy always get's ticket's. DO NOT tell them of any substance abuse. Where swiy fucked up is that swiy remebered the questions doc asked swiy. SWIM means this is not the only basis for his decision but it definetly played a part. adult add patients are more likely than not to be very forgetful. There are other symptoms SWIM is just giving swiy ideas. Hope it helps. By the way yeah jersey does have shitty health care. Later.

Do not ask what to tell a dr. so that he/she will be more likely to prescribe you a particular drug. No matter how you mask this question, it is likely not allowed. Basically, you are candy-coating the question, "How do I get drugs from a dr?" which will likely be met with negativity, supposing that a mod doesn't close the thread first.

What I will tell you in response to your question is that you need to up front with your dr. and get proper treatment with these issues. If you have problems with the things you mentioned, it is important that you are treated properly. I would go on a bit more about co-morbidity and such, but not in a thread entitled "Getting a Prescription."

Maybe you have ADD, maybe you don't... regardless, it is not for me to say.

Re: getting a prescription

Swim goes to the psychiatrist at the end of the month and is pretty sure he'll pass the test with flying colors. Swim actually does have all the symptoms associated with ADHD.
