Overdose - Can Effexor (Venlafaxine) Make You High?

SWIM is bipolar. Antidepressants can make bipolar people HIGH/manic. When SWIM first started stealing her sister's Effexor, it made her feel good, not sleep, and get hyper. SWIM kept taking the Effexor and after a few weeks, noticed it didn't have the same effects it used to have. It doesn't make her feel good anymore.
SWIM was in the psych ward this one time and was told that antidepressants can't kill you no matter how many you take. Is that true? If SWIM takes 3 or 4 or maybe 5 150mg pills instead of 1 or 2 a day, will she die or just get really HIGH. Can people who aren't bipolar get HIGH from overdosing on antidepressants?

First off: Just because it can't kill you doesn't mean it isn't bad for you.

SWIY has made two posts about whether or not something which has never really been considered by anyone particularly recreational will get SWIChrispy high.

SWIM highly recommends just skipping this part of life. The one where SWIY looks sadly through their family medicine cabinet and decides on the best option. The list of things which will get SWIY is much shorter than the list that will not. SWIM has been there.

SWIM would guess that telling SWIY that "drugs are bad, mkay" would be useless at this point, so if SWIY is truly determined he suggests going for a tried and true method of intoxication, as SWIY does not have to be putting themselves at risk for something that isn't worth it. There definately are ways for anyone, anywhere to acquire _recreational_ substances. Just a stroll through a health supplement supplier or grocery store will lead SWIY to things much more noticeably psychoactive than Effexor.

To answer your questions, Effexor may be able to change your state of mind, NO it is not a recreational drug, nor should SWIY be taking it without a prescription as its can have strong psychological effects that SWIY may not be able to percieve themself. It's likely that the first few times you took it, the euphoric effect you felt was placebo, which is why the effect did not persist.

Just for the hell of it, Concerta can get SWIY high, sort of, but it just isn't that great, it was designed by the pharmaceutical industry so it wouldn't be that great. It can make working easier, staying awake easier, but it won't ever be euphoric.
