Bad pills, do they exist?

This is a roleplay of a northern irish person who is interested in drugs that I like to play over the internet:

I have never taken ex, but all my mates have and I reaaaaaallly waana try it. Its just im freaked out about the poss. of getting a bad pill and dying. We dont have any sources and rely on getting it off people in clubs etc... Maybe you guys have no idea, but does anyone know if people actually do drop dead from bad pills? Are bad pills a myth? Can anyone help?

There is no way of telling what is in a pill without chemical testing and yes people cut pills with wierd shit (and seem to have little regard the well being of their fellow humankind). Caveat Emptor. That said, if one wanted to be a little more sure about what they were putting into their precious bodies, they might want to invest in ordering a pill testing kit. Do not ask here where to get one, try google: "pill testing kits".

You Irish roleplay character would be wise to follow Heretic.Ape's advice, a pill testing kit is a good way to decrease your chance of ingesting a dangerous substance.

That being said, yes, there are such things as "bad pills"; that is, there are a lot of "ecstasy" tablets being passed off as MDMA that contain anything but. Common adulterants may include methamphetamine, ketamine, caffeine, DXM, or varied RC's. The substance that is most commonly related to "ecstasy" fatalities is PMA, a psychedelic stimulant that somewhat mimics the effects of MDMA. PMA's LD50 is very close to its recreational dose, and also takes a little bit longer to take effect than MDMA. This has lead to some users ingesting multiple pills when no effects were initially noticed, putting them well over the lethal dosage.

Bad Pills Exist. Take It from SWIM's experience that PMA Screws SWIY Rite Up. Pill Testing kits cant be taken in2 a club or used in a club. SWIM often just takes 1 pill, Then SWIM waits for the effects (1-2 hours). SWIM normally takes them when waitin in club q's. You Wouldnt B able 2 use a test kit in a Q, just be careful when taking a new batch AS THEY COULD BE PMA! dont do what SWIM did, Taking 1 then another as the effects where unfelt. This Led to SWIM fitting. Be Careful, thats all. And most of all, enjoy. Even if it is PMA, enjoy in moderation

I think no one here can or wants to guarantee you won't get a "bad pill". If someone sells you rodent poison...bad luck, at least. Sounds hard but that's the way it is to be seen.

SWIM wouldn't buy any pills from persons he doesn't know very good and trusts them.

Would a good strategy to be take take a half, then see what happens, if I feel fine bang the other half?

Or would half be too little check check? Ill have a look around tomorrow to see if i can buy ex testing kits in any local hedshops, but i couldnt be bothered ordering from intanet and all that stuff, also i wouldnt be able to order it to my house and stuff! So yeah. Thanks a lot for your help... Basically, I just wanted to know if i buy a pill and its bad, could I die or need hospitalization? Or will I just be in for a rough night....

u'd only be in for a rough night. SWIM actually enjoyed o.d'ing a bit. drop a whole 1. only 1. wait 4 it 2 kick in, after 3 hours of no effect, drop the other 1 down ur neck. be safe tho. if you get 2 uncomfortable or feel as tho youve overdone it, seek medical attention

Following that advice would involve more than a rough night, hospitalizaion would be a nice outcome with the bad one being overheating your body leading to organ damage and possibly death (aka from PMA). That's ridiculous and unsafe advice. If SWIY takes a pill and it has no effect, there is no good reason to ingest another pill of he same kind!! That's putting twice as many unknown toxins in SWIY's body.

If SWIY is going to take ecstasy pills and have no reputable sources confirming the quality of the pills, then take half of one pill, if nothing is felt 45 minutes later then abandon the idea of taking pills that night and try to enjoy the rest of the evening semi-sober. If typical come-up feelings are felt then go ahead and have the other half. This is a precautionary way to test out pills. There are extreme cases (extremely rare) where one can be allergic to MDMA in which case there's no way of knowing beforehand. These are the cases where someone takes a pill and goes through a night of torment and then dies while strangely other people on the same pills are fine.

in the case of a bad reaction from a pill, SWIY's life is worth more than having to explain it at the time and keeping the mouth shut will aid in easing anxiety I'd expect. This is an extremely rare situation but possible, not meant to be shown as something that happens often, only something that could happen.

Ambulance would be called and they would attempt to stabilize body temp and keep vitals in check. that's just speculation but likely to be the most lethal parts of a bad pill.
