Easy way to remove resin from glass bowls

My friend soaked his in a zipploc baggie with rubbing alcohol in
it. Took it out a few hour later and the pipe was clean and all
this brownish liquid was in the bag. He then said let it
evaporate and the resin will be in the bag, he did this after we smoked
so i dont know how sure he was. But if i did this wuldnt there be
alcohol in the resin?

It sounds like it would work, but i dont think its worth messing your
resin/bowl up. I use a paperclip and it works just fine. I think there
would be some alcholol left in the resin, making it taste fowl and
maybe get you sick. I wouldent trust it. Just my opinion.

BEST way to clean is alcohol in an ultrasonic cleaner. The bowl will be spotless. As far as the resin goes, why would there be alcohol left in the resin? if you use 99% rubbing alcohol, it should evaproate. You just need to dry it properly, and unless you have like a gram of resin in your bowl, there would be such a small amount of alcohol (if it for some strange reason didn't evaporate) it would be negligable.

i do the same as stingray just use a paperclip in the carb and stem and you'll get a good amount of it, wont make it spotless but its easy.

yea the alcohol would evaporate at room temp, and a paper clip is not
good for ur bowl cuz itll scratch it up, but if ur ok with that then
its cool. i would usually heat up a paper clip to scrape one of
my bowls, but with my sweet bub i wouldnt do that, love it to much...



my friend usually uses alcohol to get his resin out, and then puts his
pipe in a microwavable bowl full of bleach and puts it in microwaves it
for a good minute or so. when it comes it looks brand new, ive
never seen anything work better but ive never tried it as i like the
way my glass looks after a good amount of use.

as for the paper clip and scratching... yea maybe it does but just the smallest bit, if you buy quality glass there should be no issue about this. actually the glass being scraped alows the resin to grab onto something the next time and build up from that thus making it faster.


As for scraping a bubbler... i dont think that it's even worth it, because when anything gets sucked through a bubbler it just gets trapped in the watter, all i'd do is get very hot water, as hot as your tap water will get, cover your bowl's holes and shake it, it takes some practice but u will eventually get it... this is how i've cleaned every bub i've owned.


As for the bleach idea. if your cautious with your pices then throwing them in the microwave isnt the best of ideas i dont think, because in there when it starts to bubble it will push the piece up and let it drop on the bowl... i say negative, i get worried when i boil my bowl in water on the stove but again quality glass can take it... after you boil it in water strain what's in there, and your set, let it dry resin time

I have always used rubbing alcohol without a problem. Resin will
accumulate if you allow the rubbing alcohol to evaporate. Never
noticed any taste/health problems from smoking this resin. Always
refreshing if for some odd reason marijuana is not available.

yea i wouldnt put my pipes in a microwave, ive just seen it done and it
always makes the glass look brand new, not just clean ya know... i
think its silly though.



like i said, i scrape my pipes with a paper clip all the time if i
wanna smoke my res or unclog something, i dont mind the scratches, just
something to think about... this makes me wonder about another
question, think i'll make a topic about it...

All I have to say is OXYCLEAN-it is unbelievable how clean that shit
gets your glass, they should brag about it in their infomercial: "Are
you tired of spending countless hours scraping resin out of your bowl?"
with a picture of an exasperated pothead and a close up of people

OXYCLEAN? idk how great of an idea it is. True i've looked around online and i've found that it oxyclean is just Potassium Hydroxide but in big letters on a site it says "POISON! DANGER! CORROSIVE. CAUSES SEVERE BURNS TO SKIN, EYES, RESPIRATORY TRACT, AND GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT. MATERIAL IS EXTREMELY DESTRUCTIVE TO ALL BODY TISSUES. MAY BE FATAL IF SWALLOWED. HARMFUL IF INHALED. "that is in a concentration of 10-40%. oxycleen uses 10-30% concentration. To me this dosent sound like the best of ideas. just because if there is any residue left in the bowl after you clean it then maybe an issue could arrise.

True the LD50 of this is 365mg/kg and that is pretty high in my eyes so maybe it could be ok, but why not stick to something completly natural? like a paper clip? or boil it, even rubbing alcohol because that evaporates leaving nothing behind.


All and all it theoritacally this oxy would work, i look on the container here at my house and i dont really see very many warnings on it, but if it were to be used i'd use generous amounts of water with it, and make sure that it is rinsed out hardcore

have scraped enough resin to get us well lit. i have never used any
cleaning fluids on a bowl but i might try the alcohal thing

Try this out... Soak the bowl in alcohol, take bowl out after a day or so, allow alcohol to evaporate to a small amount and soak your joints in the alcohol. This gives your joints a little kick, or u can soak the alcohol up in a cigarette

Yeah, i was there (it was my bowl actually). What you do, is get a
long-flamed lighter, and pull a slight amount on the bowl while you
hold the lighter to it... sort of like if you wanted to take a hit, but
not actually inhaling (unless you want to... it kind of tastes bad).
After you do this for approx 10+ seconds, immediately take a
needle/paperclip or whatever you use and in a circular motion, go
around the bowl. You should get large, flat sheets of resin/tar into
your scraping utencil. Just wipe it onto a piece of paper or something
for use later. Repeat this process a good 5 or 6 times, and your bowl
should be reallllllly clean. Like, i was able to see through my bowl
again after doing this! And it was really dirty too!



Now, as for that resin.. what i like to do is, using my fingers, roll
it into a compacted ball and put it on the end of a clean
needle/paperclip. Then, i hold it over the bowl approx .5 inches from
the hole and hold the lighter to it. It will eventually catch on fire,
when it does, just blow it out and then inhale. The smoke is very harsh
and you will probably cough, no matter how professional you are at
smoking. The hit is just about as powerful as like 5 hits of normal
pot, but less desirable. I only suggest doing this if you are desperate
(like we were).



Hope this method is good for you. Just dont put the resin ball back
into the pipe without holding it on a needle/paperclip or something. If
you just put it in the pipe, it will melt all over it and you might not
even be able to get air through the main hole again, which would really
suck. Just a word of advice.

SWIM has found that your right stingray, a long flamed lighter is ausome, also if u hit the bowl like normal through the carb then push the paper clip all over the bowl head part, then blow through the carb covering the mouthpiece with your hand and the blow piece with your thumb you will blow out chunks of resin... then take these chunks and put them in the bowl, true i do need to stick a paperclip through sometimes but not all.. SWIM will give your method a try (rolling it into a ball and a pin in it)next time he needs to get high and dosent have anything

Swim has smoked resin but it hurts his lungs terribly and doesn't really like to smoke it but has and probably will again, it will get u completly tore up but swim hates smoking it without herb, but if he has shader leaves then its ideal to swim to throw the resin out of the bowl ontop of the shader leaves and fire it up, dunno why but if swim has herb he usually rolls a blunt rather than smoking from a bowl inless he is alone. If swim doesnt have alot of herb he will throw resin ontop of the herb if there are friends there and he isnt sure he has enough.


Sorry that was a little off topic swim cleans his bowls by heating them up but swim only has metal and wood bowls and the metal is theone he heats up and the wood he doesnt clean alot cause he doesnt like it all that much and the resis is very sticky and causes a mess when u try to clean them at all anyways with this method swim is going to buy a glass bowl and then he will try that but for now he only has the above and water pipes and other things.Edited by: purplehaze
